Sportsnet is becoming extremely watered down for talent

But count me amongst the group that really was never all that fond of this guy either

I found him a little odd throughout his career. Maybe it's a Sportsnet thing but they have a couple personalities on staff who try to mimic Ron McLean's hand gestures in recent years. Millard is one, and the worst offender Jeff Marek being the other. Even old Elliott Friedman has started it a little, but not as bad as those other guys. Anyway, hope Millard got something lined up for his sake.

Based on his announcement, it seems like he might be leaving sports altogether, with the way he talks about all the great sports moments he's had a chance to cover over the years and pursuing another opportunity "in that wake of history".

On the other hand, these sorts of vague announcements are usually the result of a no-compete clause in the person's contract, which would usually be because he's moving to a competing network/station.

----------

Doesn't Ontario have municipal elections coming up in the fall? Maybe he's following Millions' lead and running for office.

He goes back to nearly the early days of RSN. I can't say he was my favourite but he wasn't terrible or anything. I wish him good luck in his future endeavour.

He was a Day One SN employee, so he's actually been there longer than Rogers has owned the network.

That would be risky considering nobody knows if Toronto will have 47 councillors or 3 if Doug Ford gets his way.

I'm willing to bet that in 6 years the demand for cable news networks covering sports will be diminished so badly that there won't be any more mega contracts handed out.

So a bad as things are now, I don't see them getting better when this contract ends.

If anything it'll probably be Rogers picking up the next contract for a much smaller price, and cuts deeper than we've seen under this one. They have the most money in Canada and are kind of all in on cable.

TSN & Sportsnet each have streaming services. They'll pay to keep the NHL in house especially if viewers continue to migrate online.

Monday to Friday if a game is on RSN I always watch the opponents feed and it's always way more enjoyable than having to listen to Romanuk and Millen.

People won't stop illegally streaming until their prices are more reasonable. $24.99 for each one? You'd be at like $50.00 for just TSN and Sportsnet. What a rip off.
