I'm sure us Flames fans would love some redemption from past dealing with the Leafs too, two of the worst trades in Calgary's history... Gilmour & Phaneuf deals.

Would you guys like to see a PTO/1 year deal for Rick Nash? Let the Mangiapane’s and Foo’s over ripen one more year and stack up on offense??

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Neal
Nash - Ryan - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Stone/Andersson

PP1
Nash - Monahan - Gaudreau
Giordano - Neal

PP2
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm
Hanifin - Brodie

Personally, I'd rather go with what we have. Let the few kids compete for an actual spot or 2 and inject some youth, desperation, and speed into those spots.

But I'd still sign Nick Shore if possible. Good C depth to have and still only 25.

I wonder if Linden Vey returns from the K for a try-out this season?

Come on now...EVERYBODY had Sam listed in the top four

central scouting had him #1...not one team picks Nylander above Sam

Selecting William Nylander #4 in the 2014 NHL entry draft was NEVER an obvious choice. Hell, it was never even a conventional choice. Bennett may never turn into the player the Flames hoped they were getting, but at the time there was no reason to expect that he would not be an excellent NHL player. It was the right pick at the time.

I like the roster for the most part.. still not completely comfortable with the goaltending though.

To Ottawa:
Michael Stone
Jon Gillies or David Rittich

To Calgary:
Craig Anderson ($1 million retained)

The Senators may need Stone for both their team and to entice Mark Stone to re-sign. This deal makes the Flames a lot older in the goaltending department but two goalies who have been starters in the league for a long time. (Also, doesn't Anderson usually have terrific stats every second year?)

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Neal
Bennett-Backlund-Foo
Czarnik-Ryan-Frolik
Lazar

Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Kulak-Andersson
Prout

Smith (41 GP)
Anderson (41 GP)

By saying obvious, I meant going with the feel good story that people love to see, the son of a former Flame being drafted by his hometown team. William Nylander would've been the choice the Flames made with their heart but instead Calgary went with their head. (taking the higher rated Sam Bennett)

Most PTOs never get signed, but it doesn't hurt to have the extra competition. With at least 2 goalies going to China, I could see a goalie PTO quite easily. Not much out there, but Lehtonen and Lindback might be the best of a bad bunch (assuming they haven't signed in Europe yet).

If Rick Nash comes back (and that is a big IF) he is likely going to do it mid season probably just before the trade deadline and sign with a contender.

That way he avoids most of the strenuous NHL regular season and gets a chance to win the cup.

He withdrew his name from July 1st free agent frenzy for a reason. He is not sure if his body is up for it.

I don't think Flames management gave a #### about a guy who was mediocre in Calgary years before any of them were with the organization

I am virtually certain that at the time of the 2014 Draft NOBODY in Calgary would have loved seeing the Flames draft William Nylander while the top-rated consensus pick was still on the board.

The biggest question left is goaltending.

Mike Smith is one of the oldest goalies in the league, plus he's very injury-prone.
Rittich and Gillies are promising, but they only averaged 90.2% last year. There's a lot of risk there.

It might be a good idea to save that remaining cap space for a potential goaltending backup or 1B. Just in case Smith gets injured. I wouldn't want to lose the entire season to something so manageable.

I don’t think we have to sign anyone else. There will be competition for that 4th LW/RW spot. Don’t think Rick Nash is the answer.

As for goaltending, my guess is that we sign Smith to a cheap 1/2 year deal to be 1B if one of Rittich/Gillies are capable of playing lots of games. If not, we might have yet another goalie makeover. More stopgaps and what not until Parsons is ready in like 2-4 years.

Another aspect about adding Nylander is his salary would fit right in line with Calgary's internal cap hit limit, otherwise known as the Giordano Factor.

I'd be awesome if Brad Treliving could trade Oliver Kylington or Rasmus Andersson plus a couple 1st's to the Leafs for William Nylander.

One of Frolik or Stone could also be dealt to clear the needed cap space.

7 x $6.75 for the RFA Nylander

What the eff.. you want to add a couple firsts in there. No thanks.

Nylander is overrated because he is a Maple Leaf. 60 pt player

This would be the youngest and deepest forward group the Flames have seen since forever.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Nylander
Jankowski - Backlund - Ryan

That may be true, but the cost is prohibitive. At the expense of one of the team's top defense prospects and a couple top draft picks is not something that this team can afford. Certainly not for a player at Nylander's level.
