Stockton Heat 2018/19 General Discussion
Well, another off season is here and some depth signings have been made. Might as well get the Heat thread for next season going.
Some of these guys will obviously make the NHL squad, but just to get it going with a rough depth chart:
Mangiapane - Dube - Foo
Shinkaruk - Quine - Phillips
Klimchuk - Graovac - Gawdin
Ehliz - Pollock - Lomberg (LHS)
Fischer (RW - AHL deal)
McMurty (C - AHL deal)
I could see scenario's where Foo or Mangiapane make the NHL, or maybe even Quine, but that's probably about it. Dube as well maybe, but he might be better off getting lots of ice time in the A for now.
I could also see scenario's where Hathaway ends up down in Stockton as well.
Can definitely see why they let guys like Hunter Smith, Emile Poirier and Austin Carroll go unqualified.
Kylington - Andersson
Valimaki - Hogstrom (LHS)
Healey -
Would have loved to see Goloubef back, too bad I guess. On D I could see Andersson in the NHL and I could see Hogstrom up in the NHL as the #7 as well.
I could also see Prout down in Stockton too as IMO he and Hogstrom will battle for #7.
Valimaki and Kylington should log huge minutes in Stockton IMO.
Gillies/Rittich
Parsons
The loser of the NHL back up battle will be the starter in Stockton. My bet is Gillies is that guy as he can still be sent down without waivers. Parsons might shuttle back and forth from the ECHL to get as many starts as possible.
McDonald and Schneider share the net in KC unless they loan one out.
I'd imagine the Flames won't sign any more AHLers to NHL two ways, more likely they add AHL depth now with AHL deals, and ATO's.

On paper that's a pretty stacked AHL squad. Obviously it will be picked apart during the year and chances are one of Foo, Eatbread or Dube start with the big club or are the first call up.but it will be a really interesting season.

My mistake thinking there'd likely be no more AHL players added with NHL contracts.
Welcome big bad Buddy Robinson.
26 YO 6'6 230lb RW with 25 goals and 53 points for the Moose last year.

Report out of Sweden says Ollas Mattsson has accepted an offer to play in North America again this season changing his mind last minute after it was looking like he was going to sign with Timra IK
No word if it is with the Heat or not. Flames lost exclusive draft rights by not signing AOM to a NHL deal by June 1st, 2018, but Treliving said another AHL deal was a possibility.

According to http://hockeynews.se/articles/3562/
AOM is coming back for another season in Stockton. Looks like AHL deal only.

Good. There should be plenty of chances for him to get some playing time down there. Only 14 games last season didn't really give him a chance to show what he can do in North America.

I wouldn't exactly label him as a captain type. He is very capable of leading a team on the ice but when I would see him in Kansas City last year, he was not very vocal. He is a hard worker and communicates well with his linemates but I would worry about the off the ice aspect as far as leadership goes.

Emile Poirier is back in the Calgary system, at least temporarily. NHL.com’s Patrick Williams reports that the Flames’ 2013 first-round pick has been invited to camp by their AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat. Poirier was not qualified this off-season after another disappointing campaign in the minors. The talented forward struggled with consistency throughout his entry-level contract and a lack of production convinced the Flames to move on without him. It seems that the Heat are not as willing to let go though. While there are many intriguing veteran names already slotted for roles in Stockton, as well as other camp invites like Logan Shaw and Gilbert Brule, the familiarity that Poirier could bring to team that has seen much changeover could earn him a roster spot.
