Default Donating old stuff... help!

We are finally getting rid of some of the junk and other things that we’ve accumulated over the years, and as the kids have gotten older. Sold a few things on Kijiji, donated a bunch of old clothes, and gave away some things to a friend.

However, we’ve hit a point where we have a pile of stuff (smaller baby things and other random stuff), but feel bad taking it to the dump if someone can use it.

Is there a place that will accept baby/kids items? We tried the Salvation Army but they wouldn’t take it. Also, what about crappy kids bikes, that perhaps could be salvaged but not without some work? Just toss them?

I would contact womens shelters as a starting point. If they arent interested they may point you in the right direction?

Goodwill would take the clothes for sure.

We take any of our “last chance” stuff to Value Village and let them decide if it’s got any life left in it. I figure it’s either straight into the dumpster from us, or one last pass at having some value extracted from it before it hits the landfill.

I’m sure the majority of it ends up in the dump rather than store shelves, but they literally don’t turn anything down.

^^ That's a good idea. I mean, some of it probably is junk, but I know some of it isn't. So if a place like Value Village can't sell it, then it's probably better off at the dump.

I prefer World Serve as their profits go to help various charity groups.

^^ according to their website they accept kids toys, games and books but not:

Baby / Children’s Equipment – Cribs, Cradles, Bassinets, High Chairs, Swings, Bath Seats or Bath Rings, Walkers, Car/Booster Seats, Strollers or Carriages, Playpens, and Safety Gates.

Might be worth a shot.

No place can legally accept those items.

You can post them on Kijiji though.

If I just want to get rid of it I'll post it for free on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace, though it is somewhat annoying with all the people, but I really hate throwing things that are still useful away so I just accept it.

Bikes you can take to the dump. They get recycled.

Two Wheel View or The Bike Root would love a bike donation. They can fix them up.

Find one of those donation boxes they have in Parking Lots, leave the stuff and drive away like you're in a Police chase.

There should be no reason why anything should hit the dump. There's always people willing to take it off your hands for free. Even if baby things aren't good for babies anymore, they may still function fine as props or toys for someone out there.

This is quite true. With the exception of maybe old upholstered furniture, you can find someone to take almost anything.

Just list it on Craigslist for free.

I would have some caution with items that might be dangerous, which includes things like expired baby car seats. You could end up getting sued.
