Maintenance is a drawback (yearly descale about 200$ if you don't do it by yourself).

If you don't mind sharing, how much did you pay to purchase and install the tankless water heater?
Trying to get quotes here to see what's reasonable.
Thanks!

Or grab a submersible pump, a bucket and a couple dryer hoses. If you grab a pump on sale you should be well under $200.
I also highly recommend the Navien heaters with the internal circulation pump. Cold water sandwich sucks, and these won't have that and typically get you to first hot water much faster as well.

Ya, I got my pump kit for $140. Mine is a Navient as well. Great unit.

If you can swing it, I can save you on the brand research. IBC Tankless are amazing. Equipment ranges from 3k-6k depending on spec. I'd estimate install at 3k to 4k with parts, new valves etc. So 6k on the low side. You are looking at a 25 year warranty on the IBC equipment so long as you have a water softener.
Another point of recommendation is to put a Moen FLO control valve on the city water.

Definitely one with a circ pump! Mine was disabled when we moved in and I was pretty disappointed in the tankless system until I did some research and turned the recirc on.

Absolutely. When retrofitting, just note the difference between just having a recirculation pump (usually external recirculation) and an internal recirculation pump with a buffer tank.
Retrofitting external recirculation will typically be painful and expensive. Internal recirculation will get you most of the benefits (besides when calling for hot water for the first time in a few hours) and also be more energy efficient than external recirculation.

I'm about to start a wood slat wall project in a couple locations in my house. I have looked around at Rona & Home Depot for 1x2 slats and not too happy with their limited offerings. I've gone to Timber Town, and they've given me the run around on pricing and sourcing material for fir slats. I only need 8' lengths, and they're telling me that their materials can range from 6' to 16' in length. I'm likely stuck with overpaying and lots of leftover scrap pieces.
Are there any good places to source decent wood slats?

The computer mats wont work. We have wrecked 2 of them so far.

I got tired of replacing the plastic ones that would shatter, so built my own.

Try Windsor Plywood, they sell all kinds of wood. Find a local woodworker who can rip some planks for you.

Have you tried a glass one? The plastic ones are trash, but the glass one I have has been rock solid.

See somebody suggested it, but another vote for Windsor Plywood. Used them for both of our slat walls.

Found a piece of 1 inch MDF with a melamine finish on Kijiji for free this weekend.
Cut to fit around his desk and currently in test mode...LOL
Will look at a glass one if this fails.

If they sell 16' and you need 8' how are you ending up with lots of scraps... or scraps at all?

Were you buying hard plastic ones or the soft ones? If it gets hot and cold in the room, the hard ones shatter a lot easier if placed on carpet that flexes vs a hard surface. You may need a soft plastic one for your carpet situation or something harder than plastic like the glass suggestion. The correct rollers on a chair also help to avoid shattering those things. You'll want carpet rollers vs hard floor rollers. The correct rollers also mean you'll glide with more ease vs feeling like dragging a wagon through sand.

They can't guarantee me any set length, so I could be getting anything between 6' to 16'. Yes, they have some 16', but not all. Example, they would end up giving me, 7'+9'+11'+16' lengths to reach my total board foot requirement without consideration for my specific needs.

Well my 14 year old furnace is close to dying. Heat ain't so good. It was a builder grade Trane I think.
I'm pretty much ready to replace my furnace. Any suggestions on where to research furnaces?
I've recieved two quotes so far for my 1600 sqft duplex -
Lennox single stage 80kBTU for $5800.
Keepright dual stage 80kBTU for the same price.
Realistically, my family and I need the heat for maybe another 2-4 years. We're going to be moving in that time frame. So while quality is important, price is also a factor. While I've heard of Lennox before, I've never heard of a Keepright.
Any help is much appreciated.

There’s a super well known poster around here who’s an HVAC tech and his name is slipping my mind but he would be able to answer your questions. Pretty sure he works for chestermere heating and cooling. Hopefully someone else can vouch for them / jog my memory.
