Lukaku official now. Not that there was any doubt over the transfer.
First match against Arsenal on the 22nd.

God damnit!
I thought Arsenal and Brentford were playing today! Turned on Dazn and was severely disappointed...

Excited to see Brentford in action, the analytics dork in me can't help but root for them.

Brentford all over Arsenal. They should be up by more.

Arteta at 12/1 as first manager sacked looking like exceptional odds. Might be even money after today.

Hopefully not. He’s been doing great things there and I’ve really enjoyed his work!

Arsenal look pretty poor. I feel like they have 4 or 5 decent players but are such a long ways behind city, Liverpool and chelsea these days, the job to build them back up and add 4-5 world class players feels almost insurmountable. Though I guess u could say that about the Gao between those 3 and most teams ha.

as poor as Arsenal have been, I can't help but be impressed by Brentford. Good pressing, clever runs and not fazed by the limelights at all. I'll be rooting hard for them this season.

If toney can carry over his goal scoring from championship to PL they will surprise a ton of people
Players around him look great too
Not a glowing debut for ben white

Chelsea and Man City next for Arsenal, DFL at the end of August looking like a certainty.

Scoring Winger

When you saw the team sheet you knew this was always the likely result. Pepe at 26 was the most experienced of the front four, and he isn't very good.
This is a bad Arsenal team. Don't want to draw too many conclusions from one game, especially with both Auba and Laca out, but having experienced the last couple of years, it is hard to be optimistic about anything Arsenal right now.
Also, the team with the 3rd best defensive record in the league had a centre back as their big signing, meanwhile the lack of creativity in midfield remains unaddressed (so far). Hopefully that was a one-off by Ben White, otherwise our big signing is actually a downgrade and he will have to start a lot of attacks to make up for it.

to me, it's just a bang average team ... even if you throw in Lacazette and Aubameyang. Look at that team on paper and show me how it's better than the likes of Leicester, West Ham or Aston Villa.
Arteta has been overhyped a lot because he used to work with Guardiola, but he hasn't done anything to suggest that he's up for the job.

That Amazon All or Nothing is going to be an absolute blockbuster! Chelsea and City in the next two, which doesn’t bode well after that showing.
