There’s the underpromising again, there’s a lot more than syphillis!

Almost a perfect overlay with this graph of high temperatures that year - we had a heat wave in May, explaining the early peak that matched Stampede:

Reminds me of another one I saw yesterday --- Spruce it Up garden center is allowing people to buy 'water passes' for their well water. Feels like an ####### move to me but the Calgary Gardening group is in love with them for it. What does CP think?

Free if you buy a plant, any plant. Otherwise $20 for unlimited water until the restrictions end doesn't seem so bad. Sure they are probably making a bit of money on it, but probably not gouging.

I don't really see the big deal with Earls nixing tap water... Their other water uses are mandated by health and safety standards, so there's not much else they can do... I suppose nothing. They could instead do nothing. I just don't feel like eliminating tap water changes the value prop of having lunch at Earls and find it hilarious that anyone would think it would change their bottom line...

I think the cost for a water pass is more to just have some sanity, if it was free they'd probably have traffic crippling lineups.

Withdrawals from rivers, lakes etc. for industrial use is governed by the Province of Alberta and would likely require permits. Not impossible and you would hope the Province would step up to expedite the process but the Stampede couldn't just run some hoses and pumps and get after it.

Yeah, It's not the same but free water in European restaurants is generally not a thing either. But you can buy bottled water. We're not used to it here but it is not unprecedented.

I am sure Earl's new found fondness for European Restaurant norms is just a coincidence.....

Ya, I figured as much, but seems like something that could be figured out. Could you imagine the province not cutting red tape for the Stampede? It'd be the wild west out there...

Mine and everyone else’s tax dollars and water bills pay for us to have clean drinking water available. Now, while there is an emergency going on, that does not give Earls the right to withhold the clean drinking water I pay for, meanwhile trying to scalp me for more money. This is not ok at all.
What I should have done was leave, but I had lunch with my wife and she was on a tight schedule. I won’t be going back however (the server wasn’t very good either).

How did you pay for Earl’s water if you’re expecting it for free?

Look at your water bill, the fees associated with it, and you’ll have your answer
