This is also a pathetic example of how tanking should be the way to build your team. On one side you have the stars with one high pick (3rd) and a bunch of later round picks that they’ve developed well. On the other side you have the lottery team that needed to have the rules change which resulted in another first overall

Reminder that Buffalo and Edmonton had the two worst records in the NHL for the 2010s. One team lucked out and won the lottery of the century even though they should not have been allowed to pick #1 for the 4th time in 6 years, and the other team is still a dumpster fire.

Elite talent is what wins in this league. And most of the time it can only be obtained at or near the top of the draft.
