Or maybe Suniev can make the big team right from the start!

UMass beat Providence this afternoon (3-1, no points for Suniev), so they survive to play again next weekend. It's a weird situation that sometimes happens in the NCAA Conference playoffs, where Providence was the higher seed in Hockey East, but UMass had the better overall record.
UConn currently trails BC 3-1 in the second period. Sergeev is in net for the Huskies.

Now 4-1 for BC after 2. Could this be Sergeev’s last college game?

I agree. UConn isn’t a very good team, and I’d bet their best player, Matthew Wood signs with the Preds any day. Sergeev should get out of there. Turn pro or transfer portal.

There'd likely be a spot for him on the Wranglers, which would include Russian speakers on the team.

NCAA Transfer Portal for underclassmen is March 31 to May 15. Maybe Sergeev sticks around for his Junior year to be UConn's presumptive starter?

UMass's HockeyEast semifinal game against BC has just started at the TD Garden. UMass has the early 1-0 lead.
Right now, UMass sits 12th in the Pairwise rankings the NCAA uses to determine who gets invited to the NCAA Tournament. Even if they lose today, there's a good chance they'll get an invite on Sunday.

Today is the 3rd time UMass and BC will play this season. BC won both games earlier this season. 5-1 and 6-4.
Ryan Leonard scored 5 goals in the first two games; he just scored his 6th goal of the season against UMass off the Suniev penalty. Game is now tied 1-1

watching UMass vs BC was like watching the Flames vs a high skilled team. UMass works hard, Suniev had chances and created scoring chances, but could not capitalize. BC, on the other hand scored at will.
Gauthier, Smith, Leonard and Perreault were dominant, especially Gauthier. Don't like that he will be in the Pacific division
8-1 final

huge upset in the ECAC. Unranked St. Lawrence defeated the defending national champions, #6 Quinnipiac 3-0.

It looks like the loss to BC has dropped UMass to 14th in the Pairwise, but the St. Lawrence upset means 14th won't likely be good enough to get invited to the tournament.
For those who don't follow college hockey, here's how it works: 16 teams get invited to the tournament, the 6 Conference champions get automatic invites and the 10 best other teams get at-large invites.
The at-large invites are determined by a ranking formula that takes into account things like overall record and quality of competition. This is called the Pairwise.
There are 2 historically weak conferences whose teams are never in the top of the rankings, so their champions get spots 15 and 16 in the tournament.
The other 4 conferences are usually won by a team that was already strong and would have qualified as an at-large team anyway, so they open the door for the 11-14 ranked teams to get at-large invites.
When there's an upset in one of the conferences, it puts those 11-14 teams at risk.
With St. Lawrence defeating Quinnipiac, all three remaining teams in the ECAC tournament are below UMass in the Pairwise, meaning the ECAC champion will take the #14 spot in the tournament.
Because the Pairwise ranks teams relative to their performance against each other, there are still some scenarios where UMass could move up into an at-large spot. We'll find out after tomorrow's games.

Now that all of today's games are done, the picture is more clear. College Hockey News has a tool called "You are the committee" where you can test the different outcomes to determine how it will change the Pairwise: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/yatc.php
As odd as it seems, it looks like UMass's fate will be determined by the outcome of the NCHC final between Denver and Omaha tomorrow night. The other games don't appear to have any impact.
If Denver wins, UMass gets in. If Omaha wins, Colorado College gets in instead of UMass. The game goes at 6:30pm MT tomorrow.
