Just a random thought I had listening to 32 thoughts. Sens are desperate for a dman. What about a deal around debrincat and hanifin? No rumors or anything, just thinking value wise how close is that?

You've seen how the Flames coped with Tanev & even Stone out of the lineup, right?

Still no Kylington.

And you want to trade Hanifin?

So we'd have
Weegar-Tanev
Zadorov-Anderson
Mackey/Gilbert-Stone

Didn’t say I want to. Just asking about value wise.

Agreed, it would be tough to dismantle the defense right now. I think Phillips should be given a shot before a trade is made, that way we don't have to give assets if it works out.

Agreed. Debrincat just strikes me as a nice target, proper top 6 trigger man, rfa (brads favorite). I’d much rather see Phillips get a shot too

DeBrincat seems too small to play in the NHL, only 5'7 165 lbs. Hard to have a guy who is only 5'7 play in this league.

Debrincat has 321P in 386 GP that almost a PPG pace, if anything it suggests the notion of only big guys can succeed is antiquated.

Or he could have legit concern about his size. But obviously it's a proven producing winger.
So I suspect he's taking a shot at the Flames.

Trade proposal idea... Dube and Mackey for Adam Henrique and $1.5M retained by the Ducks.
Henrique had some instant chemistry with Mangiapane at the Worlds a couple years ago. Mangiapane- Kadri- Henrique line.

I will say in 2004 the Flames were bringing up guys from the AHL left and right in the playoffs and they never missed a beat with Montador and Commodore stepping in. Now they miss one or two guys and things literally fall apart defensively. I don't get it as Darryl likely isn't doing anything different as a coach. Guys like Weegar, Anderson, Zadorov, Hanafin etc should be able to step up or adjust to a new partner and not completely fall apart like they have at times. Such a weird season.

It's a different sport now. Back then you could latch on to someone and water ski up the ice. You could tackle someone who didn't even have the puck, and it was a "great defensive play." Nowadays, you even sneeze around a forward and you're in the box.

No way Montador and Commodore do the same thing if the game was called like it is today.

It also shouldn't be overlooked that Montador (Florida) and Commodore (Carolina) were both full time NHLers by the next full season in 05-06.

So it's also just likely that we had some good young depth that was ready to take the step, but were blocked by what was a decently group deep in Calgary (Regehr, Leopold, Gauthier, Lydman, Warrener, Ference)

Also if you look at numbers those 6 plus Commodore and Montador are 8 d-men. Which is what Sutter has always said - you need 8 guys.

So for the Flames with Kylington, Tanev, and Stone out we were already at our 8/9/10 dmen playing (Mackey / DeSimone / Gilbert). So that's more Brendan Evans territory...which was less good.

Really the issue on the backend is really that Mackey looked good in the AHL, outperformed Valimaki the last 18 months, only to just really struggle when his number was called this year now.

Panthers will likely have to find a trade to activate Duclair from IR. Article mentions Duclair, Bennett or Reinhart as potentially being moved. Just speculation at this point, however Panthers will need to get creative to activate Duclair.

Hornqvist + 1st to Arizona for a bucket of pucks. Oh wait, they're out of 1sts...
