If the Flames are giving up Vlader at $2m who has turned into a solid 1B goalie they better get a lot in return. We need a finisher.
Top 6 RW with enough salary retained that he doesn’t cost us more than $2M per. As well as a high draft pick. Nylander looks like the RW as we’re not getting Marner.
I can’t see this happening. But we could bring Wolf up. We do have a goalie surplus for the first time ever.

Nylander is one-dimensional but his dimension offensively is so good that it renders his defensive shortcomings inconsequential. I think he'd be the Flames' second-or third-best player at any position.
Liljegren was also terrific last year — Vladar has been significantly more up and down, and the Flames would be moving him from a position of strength.
Do that deal every day.

I am nowhere near as big a fan of Nylander as you. Don't agree with your assessment, and no way would I rank him ahead of Lindholm or Kadri (and obviously Huberdeau)
Also, Vladar plays a far more important role than Liljegren, despite Liljegren's upside.

Probably but only because we don't know what's happening with Kylington. If Kylington was up to speed and available you pull the trigger on that asap!

Don't trade Vladar, otherwise we're one injury away from being in the Leafs shoes.

Vladar just signed a contract extension. Very much doubt he gets moved just weeks after that fact.

If Kylington is out for the season, I'd rather we got Gio instead of Liljegren, but that's me. Gio - Tanev was an awesome pairing for us, which would leave Weegar - Andersson as a dynamic 1st pairing.

No reason to move a guy we just signed, plus the source musing was from the HOCKEY WRITERS. There's nothing to see here, folks.

As somebody who has lived in Toronto the last 10 years and been force fed Leaf hockey, Nylander gets a bad rep sometimes for no reason. He is far from perfect but his skill set and speed is exactly what this team needs. He is also one of the few core players on the Leafs that has actually played well in the playoffs, the playoff game isn't to fast for him. I don't see it ever happening in season as the cap aspect would make it difficult.

I agree. I usually don't care for players like Willy, but I think he would excel here. He's been near a ppg the last few years, and he produces in the playoffs. Best of all, he's a local boy! Lol

huge vladar fan but i believe enough in wolf to bite the bullet if a vladar package gets us a better 1RW than toffoli
one way or another eventually the future will run thru wolf and/or sergeev
that would be maximizing asset value at a position where they are deep . vladar would undoubtedly be an upgrade on what Toronto has right now

If/when Markstrom gets hurt this season, and we would have to use only Wolf, we’d be done. Not to mention killing Wolfs development and confidence at the same time.

Hold on, I'm confused. The Leafs have weathered the storm of having both their NHL goalies injured. Murray is scheduled to start on Tuesday. Samsonov's injury wasn't that bad and should be back soon.
So why are they trading Nylander for a backup goalie?

Because we've decided we need another top 6 forward. You need to take Looch's contract too.

Hah oh okay.
I just started reading this thread and thought there was a setback with Murray, but checked and he's still scheduled to start. Carry on with your fan-fic.
