Well yours went better than mine, I asked a similar question 5 minutes ago and got an infraction along with the message being deleted lol.

It's a good contract, no doubt about it, I just question the overall situation in Edmonton and how this fits

So did McDavid text him and tell him he needed to give 250k back?

Don't worry, I have my fair share of those over there. One time I asked why a Canucks mod was allowed to be an insulting homer but nobody else was. They didn't like that

It's literally, given the note that both Seravelli and now Dreger have felt/been asked to include in their comments (were there comments about any other UFA who signed yesterday what other offers were turned down? No) the Oilers think this shows the ability to find and attract someone not scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Wo this is one of the best signings of free agency. Hate the Oilers but can't hate on this deal. I would rather the Flames have done something like this over Tanev's four year deal.

Think it's a good signing
For both, barrie gets a lot of hate because of being in toronto, but he wasn't bad last year, just below expectations... I remember after that trade tsn had him and Reilly both hitting 60+ points so he was really set up to fail expectations wise
Hes not great defensively but hes still a net positive on the ice, and hes probably a top 10 up qb
Seravelli and dreger both parroting the 'he took less line' though is so transparent that it came from the oilers, Lowe loves to do stuff like that, same with saying they had every draft pick much higher on their board... when you say it all the time it loses its meaning

I was very concerned that the Flames were going to sign Barrie because he seems so flawed.
It must be difficult to be a thinking Oiler fan right now. "Fantastic term, great salary, player who fills none of our needs"
Cue the jokes about thinking Oiler fans

He says $6 million offer. No mention of term.
It was probably $6 million over 2 years.
Edmonton is just desperately trying to validate itself by signing anyone whether it addresses a need or not.

A team that doesn't have one real positionally sound blueliner that can take care of its own end, really shouldn't be signing Barrie. They probably should have taken a run at a guy like Hamonic, that would have made some logical sense.
Frankly right now the Oilers have the Red Sea of blueline and Barrie is the Moses.

Unless the Flames have McDavid and the #1PP in the league for Barrie to pad his stats, that comment is irrelevant.

Barrie is much better, even with not being great in his own zone, his team generates more offense than it allows when hes on
Hamonic has never been as effective, he may allow less goals than barrie when hes on the ice, but they are scoring way less
They did lack a legit offensive d man too, it was a need, and at a 1 year deal it's a huge positive

We'll have to agree to disagree. He dropped like a stone last year and was negative and that's with all world offensive talent in front of him.
The Oilers will have no shut down ability, and be pinned in their zone all night long and probably get less offensive chances for the I don't play defense twosome up front.

Telling in what sense? I think Barrie realizes that the upcoming season is a huge year for him to try and increase his value back up in the league after a tough season in Toronto, so a strong single season makes sense for him playing with Mcdavid on their top PP unit. It's a good risk to take rather than settle on a lower number after a bad year or a multiple year contract.
From an Oilers perspective, the player isn't what they need on D, but this is how they build teams up there.

Have to laugh that they feel the need to included that to make it seem like players are willing to take less to play in Edmonton. Barrie is taking the 1 year deal to pump his stats playing on that PP then signing a huge deal next year.
How come they didn’t spin the Markstrom deal as him turning down longer term to sign with Calgary?? That’s how I’m going to talk about the deal moving forward hahahaha

Telling that the way to land big UFA's in Edmonton is if they view it as a stepping stone to go elsewhere asap
