Default Saprykin Signs in Russia

http://www.russianprospects.com/public/index.php

1 year deal for HC CSKA with out clause if NHL teams sign him...
Note - He played with this team in the NHL lockout year.

Looks like we won that trade... Langkow for Gauthier and Saprykin... I'd given up hope with him in the NHL in 02-03 Season, hope he does well down there.

This guy scored the biggest goal of the last 18 years for the Flames. Finals, game 5 OT, sending us back to Calgary with a chance to win the cup at home.

For that reason alone I will always look back at Oleg with fondness. He played great in the finals.

And another Eklund inside source gone wrong. I remember reading there that he caught wind that Saprykin would be a Columbus Bluejacket soon a while back.

I'll never forget his OT goal in game 5 though. Yes, he didn't do most of the work, but he did indeed score it.

Yeah that is how I remember Oleg aswell. Not to mention he played really well for the Senators aswell during there playoff run. Oleg didn't put up alot of points for the Sens but he played his role very well imo.

I think with the right system he could be a decent 2 liner in the NHL IMO

I'll remember Oleg most fondly for getting us Langkow. First round dissapointments aren't as dissapointing if you use the asset to acquire core players.

I know Oleg on a personal level. An unusual character, but a very nice person. You'd never guess it, but he is an incredible enthusiast for hip-hop and urban cutlture.

While he didn't develop the hands that Calgary Flames scouts imagined, he was a capable checking line component. Seemed to have an agitating/mean streak - but that part of his game was also inconsistent.
I thought he would be a player that would transform into, just to use a cliche example - someone of the Ville Nieminen mold..

Oddly enough, I remember him from something a little different. He was always the guy taking shots from the least opportune angles. I thought he was meant to be a different player than a scoring first liner that everyone expected him to be. Good luck to him.

Oh another thing that I will always remember about Saprykin was when he decked Trent Whitefeild(maybe some other Capital player) while Trent was trying to get Iginla to fight him. It was nice to see him stand up for the captain and make someoen pay for taking liberties on our star player. That was a nice moment.

I was thinking that too......he can really get some zip on his shots though.

I'll always remember his crazy, top-speed rushes that always seemed to lack any real purpose - especially when he'd completely overskate the puck along the way... stick flailing in front of him... arms waving around...

but, yeah... My most vivid memory will always be that single, captivating moment of him fighting in front of the TB net, not giving up and jamming repeatedly at the puck... the perfect end to The Shift.™

When I think of Saprykin, I think of his huge hit on old man Chelios during the series vs. the Wings in 2004. Chelios playoffs were over, and we didn't have to watch him maul our players anymore.
