Last trip to Seattle we did the underground tour. Was really neat to see and well worth it.

Lots to see and do in Seattle -- we also got the City Pass the first time we went (albeit 10+ years ago). Also check out the outlet mall in Tulalip -- if you show your Alberta drivers license you don't have to pay state sales tax (this applies anywhere in Washington State). Seattle Zoo is also pretty good (not sure how much admission is though).

You also mentioned its your first time out of the country -- if you're driving you'll need your passport but your kids can just use their birth certificates.
Update on the sales tax exemption part - Starting July 1, 2019 Alberta residents still get tax exemptions, but will have to submit receipts to the government to get a refund, stores won't be able to take off the sales tax on the spot anymore.

Snowqualmie Falls is on the way in to town and is free. The falls and local area were also used for the show Twin Peaks.

The space needle is a waste of time and money, but the neighbourhood it's in has lots to see and do.

Pro tip for amusement parks: Always door crash, if you can get in the doors right after opening you can usually hit a few of the popular rides before the lines start to get long.

Someone here years ago recommended this restaurant on the downtown pier. It's fantastic.

If you can squeeze in a detour, and drive back via the island/lower mainland, the ferry from Anacortes to Sidney is pretty cool, threading in and around a bunch of the San Juan Islands. Though you'd be adding extra time and expense with a couple ferries, its very scenic.

The Crab Pot is a tourist trap in my opinion, way overpriced for the "experience" of using a mallet to break the shells of boiled crabs that are poured on your table.

Speaking of food, here's a pro tip if you are visiting the Seattle Premium Outlet. Rather than eating crappy mall food, go to the buffet at the Tulalip Casino next door. The food is on par with the Grey Eagle buffet.

Did this exact same trip last summer. We camped in Bellevue. Blue Jays game is a must! Canadian anthem was awesome! We also took in a Seahawks preseason game which was fun.

We had a great time, Seattle is a beautiful city to explore. My kids were a bit older than yours (13 and 16) but we had no trouble finding things to do without breaking the bank.

Dont forget to visit the gum wall.

True. I went last summer and 2 days is a must so you're not in a rush. For the amusement park side, go between Mon-Thurs. Do not do the weekend. I went earlier in the week and the wait time wasn't so bad.

Are Seahawks preseason tickets hard to come by? I wouldn't mind checking out a NFL game. Is it just as exciting as the regular season?

I was in Seattle yesterday, it was more of a quick stop-in while driving up to the Lower Mainland from the Oregon coast. DO NOT DRIVE IN DOWNTOWN SEATTLE AND EXPECT TO LEAVE QUICKLY DURING RUSH HOUR. I got in fairly easily, found parking near the Space Needle and then Pike Place Market but it took me about 2 hours to get out. Especially bad was having to start and stop in gridlock traffic on those steep hilly streets, with a manual transmission. Ugh.

It was quite full considering it was a preseason game, but there was a lot of choice on stub hub for a decent price. Atmosphere was great. They are passionate about their team for sure.

I wouldn’t bother. Depending which week it is you might get some starters. It won’t be exciting.

Tickets are dirt cheap,

Game is less than exciting however if you like football and haven’t been to a game it’s worth doing. The stadium is pretty cool. I’d do a baseball or soccer game over NFL pre-season

We crossed from the Inner Harbour in Victoria, over to Port Angeles & stayed in Bremerton (worked our way down to family in North Bend). Did a tour of the decommisioned destroyer there & their small naval museum. Our kids enjoyed that. We have a personal connection to Port Gamble so we also went there to wander around - old old town, established 1853, designated historical town, a lot of the buildings/homes date back to the mid-late 1800s; IIRC, the general store was built the same year as the town was established & last time we were there was still in operation (good ice cream there). You can take a ferry over or drive around via the Narrows Bridge - probably a 1.5 hr or so drive but lots of cool places west of Seattle across the Sound, if you want to get out of Seattle proper. Whidbey Island might be fun, tour Fort Casey State Park's underground bunkers (bring flashlights), etc. Drive up to Deception Pass.

Depending on the patience of your kids, taking a boat trip from Lake Union through the canals and back to Elliot Bay / Downtown is worthwhile. The boats go through the Ballard locks where the boat rises up and then goes out towards the open water back downtown. Scenery is great, the locks are kinda of neat for kids. It's not super cheap but no more than getting them all to a baseball game.

There's also a ferris wheel right around where the boat drops you off. It would also place you close to Pike's market if that's on your list.

What Campground did you stay at and were you tenting or in an RV?

We are getting an AirBnB little cabin on a farm, around 2 hours outside of Seattle, kind of equidistant from Seattle and Portland. Got a great deal on it, only a few dollars more than per night camping. We would have been tenting it.

Bumping this.

A buddy and I are road-tripping to Seattle in January, to see both Hot Water Music shows; No Division & Caution

We're gonna spend a couple days at Baker too.

Question, where's a good place to stay near the Crocodile? (Denny Triangle)
Secure parking is key too.
Recommended pubs?

We just got back from Seattle and stayed in an Airbnb in the Denny Triangle area (close to the Space Needle). It had secure underground parking included. If you're looking for an Air BNB type place I can send you the details.

We liked Black Bottle Gastrotavern. 5 Point is a bit of a dive but it had good food

I don't know if I am just not looking at the right places, but Seattle seems to be one of those cities where AirBnB seems to be almost a wash compared to a hotel. At least when I have been scoping out places in the Pike Place / Pioneer Square areas.
