Default Let's support businesses participating in the "Restriction Exemption Program"

The provincial government was dragged kicking and screaming into implementing a vaccine passport Restriction Exemption Program, which allows participating businesses to avoid implementing the restrictions that are now in effect across the province: https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-publ...h-actions.aspx

In order for these measures to be most-effective, I think it's important for us to support those businesses who are doing the right thing and enforcing proof of vaccines in their establishments.

Here are a couple of places in the Barley Belt that I've seen mentioned...

Please, add any other businesses that are following the measures, and warn of any that have chosen to be COVID-friendly so we can avoid them.

I'm a little confused by this thread, unless businesses are really stupid aren't the overwhelming majority going to be following this simply because not following destroys them with restrictions?

Are there any businesses that are going above and beyond to only allow double vaccinated customers? The negative test thing is stupid.

I think restaurants and fitness locations would pretty much have to unless they are defying the rules. A lot of stores can manage with the capacity restrictions.

Sentry Box is implementing the program.

The Calgary Farmer's Market is not - they are relying on the capacity restriction except in the Food Hall.

I kinda hate it because it feels like the UCP catering to their base, but when you look at other vaccine passport programs it's not that uncommon.

For example, in France they have a stringent vaccine passport system (none of this opt-in BS), but they also have rapid testing at just about ever pharmacy and if you test negative you get a QR code that's good for 72 hours. It's helpful for tourists who may be vaccinated but not with a qualifying shot or potentially those who have not yet been entered into the French passport system.

Truthfully if we had spent the summer, or even the last half of the summer with a program as well developed as those in the EU we wouldn't be in the situation we're in now.

Will be a tough transition at first with the odd angry person like anything but people will adjust and eventually will be a non issue when carrying vax proof is normalized.

Interestingly, the Flames/Stamps are vaccine only. No negative tests allowed.

Both Paddy's and Born Colorado mentioned in the first post say they aren't accepting negative tests and Paddy's is going one step further and not accepting medical exemptions either because their staff isn't properly trained to determine whether or not they're legitimate.

Some gyms including the one my wife works at are requiring proof of full vaccination only, negative tests aren't accepted.

How are small businesses supposed to implement this? I was at Second Cup yesterday and there was one guy manning the counter. Is he supposed to also verify vaccinations from behind there whilst taking care of orders. Are they going to have to bring another staff member in solely to do that? Are they going to have teenage girls standing at the door acting like bouncers? I feel sorry for these people having to try to enforce these rules against the inevitable #######s.

Their outlier status is certainly stark. Apparently Mount Pleasant, Thorncliffe, & Huntington Hills arenas also all require vaccinated status.

Can it even be possible? They can’t operate and not require vaccines as far as I know. Unless they don’t want to host any hockey games?

I mean yes, not so much to support them as out of purely selfish motives that anywhere that doesn't do this isn't going to feel safe (because if they're unwilling to sign on it must be because they think a significant proportion of their customers are unvaccinated).

But also it seems pretty likely that everyone who isn't vaccinated will just fake the card, doesn't it? Is there any reason to think otherwise? Once they get the QR code done maybe that'll work, but until then it seems too easy to make a card that looks real enough to fool a restaurant worker who's probably too busy dealing with customers to look closely.

Without verification the cards are 100% useless. This government is sending us over a cliff.
