Default NHL-licensed desk calendar attributes historic "US win" over Soviets in 1972

Now this is awkward.....

What an egregious error! How could the NHL get something so fundamentally wrong!

I mean, Espo didn't pass it to Henderson; he shot it at the net and Henderson got the rebound and put it in. It's clear as day! How they could get such a momentous hockey moment wrong?

Oh, and the US/Canada thing too...

Henderson took a wild stab at it first.

A wild stab at it and fell

But the thing says Esposito made an incredible pass to Henderson. That simply didn't happen. Henderson's wild stab came off a play from Cournoyer.

None of this happens if Bobby Clarke doesn't break Kharmalov's ankle

Then there was another shot, right in front, they scored!

I know some American outlets at the time promoted it as Team NHL (at the time there was a fledgling WHA), but never was it attributed to Team USA.

The World Hockey Association was a fledgeling operation overall, but 1972 was probably its peak, to be fair. Winnipeg and Hartford had just attracted Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe.

"Who beat the Soviets in 1972?"

"Us!"

Easy mistake to make, if you don't know you're talking to a Canadian.

Howe was still retired and worked in the Red Wings front office.

It was a year later that he and his sons joined the Houston Aeros.

And if I recall, the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA were the only club team from North America to beat the Russian national team at the time

To be fair? I chuckled. This reads like you were around at the time.

Back to the books.

I most certainly wasn't, of course. But man... the Summit Series was some amazing hockey. Great footage to watch, for sure. Esposito was such a force in those games, he was all over the ice.

All this proves is that my former assistant now works in the proofing department for the NHL or a calendar manufacturer...

I should purchase one of these and display it next to a batch of my business cards that came back from the printer with my name displayed as "My name here"...

Small world.
