Default Possible First Trip to Calgary - April 6th BOA Game

I live in the SF Bay Area. For my birthday my gf wants to treat me with a trip to Calgary and catch the game against the Oilers on 4/6.

Of course I want to go; but would like be away from obnoxious fans / trouble, which, because the game is against Edmonton I think the probability may be higher.

1) Assuming I can find game tickets; what are the sections to avoid?

2) How often do fights really break out in the stands at these games?

300 level is where you'll see the biggest risk. Fights actually aren't that common, really.

However, the Oilers will have long since been eliminated and the Flames playoff position locked in by that time, so it will likely be a relatively tame affair, both on the ice and in the stands.

You will be just fine. Buy your tickets based on view of the ice and enjoy your night.

yeah there is a pretty good chance its a meaningless game with the Flames resting most of their top players

Unless you're wanting to experience the BoA in person, how about waiting a week or two and seeing a first round playoff game instead? Tickets would cost a little more, but it would likely be a lot more exciting than a (potentially) meaningless regular season game, plus the likelihood of sitting next to a mouth-breathing Oilers fan will be all but eliminated...

Either way, hope you're able to make the trip and visit our state of the art 1983 hockey arena

If you were wearing a Flames jersey to Edmonton you might be in trouble. The chances of you getting in trouble surrounded by 19000 other flames fans is zero. I doubt many Oiler fans will be there anyways due to the humiliation of this season. If they are there they will likely be wearing bags over their heads.

We're talking about Oiler fans. No one wants to sit next to them.

If you're coming all the way from the Bay Area, avoid the PL seats if the budget permits. The fans are great up there, but it's a mile from the action and you won't get the full experience (limited view of the clock, shooting flames etc.)

Oil fans in Edmonton are more palatable than Oil fans in Calgary

U.S. dollars go far in Canada. Buy decent seats.

I can't even remember the last fight I've seen in the stands in any arena. Over a dozen games in Rexall with no issues in my Flames jersey (We won every time I went too $$). I don't think I've really seen much beyond chirping between visiting Oiler fans and Flames fans at the dome either. We talk a big game, but by an large nobody is dumb enough to take a hockey game that seriously

Bring a couple rolls of quarters in your pocket in the event you have to rumble.

Google Canadian Standoff, and you should get a pretty good idea of what your in for, coming north of the boarder for a flames game.

For ease of use:

Hey, its better than the Cow Palace!

Anyway, maybe do a post in the Buy/Sell section of this site, looking for tickets to that specific game. I bet there are a few seasons ticket holders that can hook you up!

Enjoy!

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

If you can, try to get to a playoff game as the atmosphere is completely different.

Agree with the advice to buy decent seats. Lower and second bowl tend to be just fine. A few heckles and what not, but you won’t fistfight anyone.

Just kidding, probably at least 3 fistfights. Avoid the cage section we put Oiler fans in to taunt

Hey Dude,

I'm from germany and i was at the BoA last Season on March 31. I was "lucky" that we were sitting in between Oiler Fans. We have had good times though. I made some fun out of them as they were totally disillusioned about their team , we had some beer together and it was alot of fun.

So from my experience, nothing to scare about =) just have fun.
