Dube and Gillies assigned to Stockton. Mangiapane activated off IR
Flames are currently at 12 forwards, so either Mangiapane comes off IR or there is call up tomorrow.
Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Flames assign Dillon Dube and Jon Gillies to Stockton.

Good.
Certainly didn't need a 3-headed goalie debacle again and Dube just isn't ready.

I noticed that Dube was trying harder to generate offense this time around. He was keeping the puck more and taking more shots. He just needs to keep building on that.

Makes sense, entirely. Czarnik's recent progression makes him hard to keep out of the lineup. Really liking his spark.
I don't think Mangiapane will stay up, so I wonder who comes next? Perhaps Foo? I'd like to see him again, he showed some jam and offensive instinct last season.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Final thought on #Flames demotions — with no extra forwards on active roster, would expect that Andrew Mangiapane is about to be activated from IR.

The Flames currently have two empty roster spots. Do they fill them both? They also have $2.3 million in cap space.

They don't need to fill both. They have been trying to run with 22 men the last while (injuries permitting)

Call up Peluso to sit. Why interrupt the progress of a kid already deemed not ready to play in the NHL and then make him sit up here? Its not a huge deal really just seemed odd to me.

Should have given Gillies a game. Useful learning experience and couldn't have been worse than Smith.

Well is it such a bad thing to get a kid on the road with the boys, do a little bonding, practice and learn from above for a few days? Plus an NHL paycheck. I doubt he was bummed about it.

They should send Mangiapane down when he's healthy too.
None of our forwards on the farm are quite ready yet.
Call up someone to sit (Peluso, Lomberg) and play the 12 guys we have been until we can add at the TDL.
I feel like Treliving will be quite active at this years deadline.

Except so far this season Gillies has been significantly worse than Smith without even facing NHL-quality opponents.
I’m sure Gillies honestly wishes he was playing even up to the quality of Smith this year, as that shouldn’t be a hard thing to accomplish.

Or having NHL quality defence play in front of him.
