Oh i agree 100% with you just Doughty got in to be the Kings rep and Karlsson got in because the game is in San Jose and the fans there wanna see their players more. I bet fair number of fans in San Jose don't have a clue who Mark Giordano even is

I echo many comments here; welcome the rest period but wanted some more recognition.
Maybe this is what made the game so intense v the sharks the other night!

Yup and they got pretty much identical stats. Dr. Drai has one more assist then Mony. Both have 21 goals.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth leading scorers of the Pacific Division are not on the team. Instead we got the 21st in Clayton Keller so that Arizona is there.
The best defenseman was omitted as well in order to pander to the host and get LA represented.

Enough for 4 lines. Players don't have to play as much and fans are happier since fewer snubs and less awkward to have to fit in the 1 per team rule. Tough to pick 11 all-stars per division, and have one representative from each of the 8 teams per division, without leaving some deserving guys out. Going to 14 per division would make it a lot easier.
I am excited to see the jersey's though - Sharks teal color scheme has some potential.
|
Yeah, I've been saying that since they switched to this format. 4 complete lines for each team would make so much more sense.

Interesting conversation on the fan with Ovechkin bailing on the all-star game. He will be suspended one game for skipping. Player can choose if it is the game before or after the all star break. First game after is the Flames. Game before is the Leafs.

Monahan is criminally underrated. But this game is a joke so I’m kind of glad he wasn’t picked.

Understand the need to pander to the host city, but Flames kind of recognized by having 5 other members on the Pacific injury reserve list, including Riddicht (sorry spelling, on my phone), which is more than anymore other pacific team

I think two Sharks would have been a good idea, let the Shark fans vote en masse to get that third representative in and drum up fanfare before the game in San Jose.
Now it seems like what's the point of getting in a Shark, four seems like overkill that doesn't actually 'benefit' the Shark fans and might dissuade them from mass voting.

Total pandering to San Jose. Giordano over Karlsson and Amy of Monahan, Lindholm or Tkachuk over Pavelski in any other circumstance. Best team in division only gets one player. Another reason the all star game means nothing

Good on Johnny well deserved as usual !
Monahan statistically deserved a spot at C too. Gio btw 2nd in Pacific for pts. And 5th overall in NHL for D.

Voted for Kodos

All the deserving Flames weren’t going to make it anyway.
Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Gio, and Rittich all deserving to be there, and likely Lindholm too.
They need to go to teams of 4 lines to fit all the deserving players.

I'm not sure if I'm reading that properly but it says it's only Crosby's 4th all star appearance?

Agree that rosters should be expanded a bit.
Point and Morgan Rielly deserve to be there.
Tavares/Matthews > Marner is a case of advertising your stars. But then
Atkinson/Seth Jones > Malkin/Kessel/Letang is strange.
Karlsson > Gio is stupid, esp given that SJ already has 2 other players.
