Plus the fact (maybe not fact per se but the overwhelming likelihood) that Fox was never going to sign here just makes this deal that much better, even at the time it happened. Fox might turn in to a good player but he was never going to be a player, period, for the Flames. BT showing excellent asset skills to flip a the third round pick into a massive upgrade at two critically important positions of need that are controlled assets. I would bet good money that Fox and Ferland don't play a game for Carolina after this season pushing this trade even more in our favor.

Perhaps it’s just BS on my part, but I see Johnny playing much higher up the ice and getting more breakaway chances this year as a result. This would only be possible if he had line mates who were excellent defensively.
I think Lindholm has made a Johnny more of an offensive threat. Best acquisition for a long long time.

Nice write-up on Elias in this ESPN article:
Strapped with a $29.1 million contract extension and a gig on the team's top line riding shotgun with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, Lindholm is currently loving his new life in his debut season with the Flames. What's particularly notable about his success is that most of his underlying numbers aren't actually all that different from his career norms, except for the fact that he's suddenly gone from being a below-average shooter to an elite one in the blink of an eye:
While he's not necessarily shooting more on a per-minute basis, he's a) shooting more overall because he's playing more total minutes, and he's b) shooting from better scoring areas because he's playing alongside a lethal finisher in Monahan and one of the best playmakers in the game in Gaudreau. The last part is the most fascinating theoretical point to consider, because we don't often think about how individual players and their presence on the ice influence the teammates they share the ice with from a geometrical spacing perspective.

Looks like that picture didn’t post. I can’t figure it out. But it was classy.

Yeah, yeah. Everybody knows that. I meant surnames - things that would be names on real NHL jerseys. Nobody has their middle name on a jersey. Couldn’t be bothered to correct it
And then I posted a picture I saw in Edmonton, but it didn’t work for some reason. But it showed an example where not using an appropriate name doesn’t look as amazing as the guy thinks it does

Wanted to bump this thread-
Is it possible that Lindy is our best all around player?
- offensive catalyst, no matter which line he is on
-great defensive play. Leads league in +/- as a forward
- lethal shot, one timer has become legit option on the pp because of him
-causes turnovers very frequently
-unreal player at 4v4 or shorthanded. Extra space = extra glory for him
- amazingly strong on the boards and very hard to get off the puck in open ice
I would have said tkachuk was close or on par but lindholms consistency has really catapulted him past matt imo. One of the best contracts in the entire league.

He said in his beginning of season interviews he wanted to model his game more after his idol Peter Forsberg and dare i say he has looked very much like him this year.

Easily our most consistent forward this year, even during the recent down stretch he was still playing the same way and producing.
