"Win now" mode like the 2015–16 Pittsburgh Penguins?

Bringing in Talbot gives us a 3rd bullet in the gun if one of or both of Smith/Rittich falter. I simply don’t trust Smith. If Rittich gets injured I am more confident in Talbot/Smith than Gillies/Smith.

Are there other goalies I would prefer? Yep, but I don’t think there are any out there that I’d like the acquisition cost of.

As for them being in “win now mode” that’s your opinion. I think our window is just opening and if you can add a piece like Puljujarvi for pennies that could contribute after a year or two in the AHL and some actual development then I don’t see the risk. I’m not talking about giving up a first or Andersson or anything like that. I’m talking about Talbot coming in as a warm body to see what he has in front of an NHL team/D-core and Puljujarvi coming in as a prospect, not a “win now” piece.

It doesn’t matter as its not going to happen anyways but making a small move for those 2 players doesn’t hurt the teams chances at a cup this year unless it causes a problem with team chemistry which is always a risk no matter who it is.

Throw on a playoff beard and they're all Guy Incognito to me.

Oiler players aren't reclamation projects, though some may take longer to rebound than others. Dubnyk is an example.

There are some decent players on the Oilers. Not many on this year's team, but there are some. They just won't perform to the full potential on the Edmonton Oilers because OBC stink is powerful.

And to 'fall out of the wildcard', they would have to be passed by the 9th place team. And one of the WC teams that passed them would have to be in the Pacific (or they would still be in 3rd).

In other words, for the Flames to fall out of the playoff picture, they would have to be passed by either Vancouver, Arizona, or - wait for it - Edmonton.

CAL: 34 - 16 - 7, 75 Pts

VAN: 26 - 26 - 7, 59 Pts
ARI.: 25 - 27 - 5, 55 Pts
EDM: 24 - 27 - 5, 53 Pts

VAN is on pace for 82 pts.

For the Flames to get to 82, they need only go 3 - 21 - 1 the rest of the way.

If the Oilers play .500 the rest of the way, they will finish with 79 pts.

If the Flames go 1 - 23 - 1 the rest of the way, they will also finish with 79 pts.

lol

Talbot nearly single handedly dragged that dumpster team to the 3rd round.

I still see the term being used. Which is sort of ironic.

The only Oiler I want on this roster is Talbot. I have a sneaking suspicion he will Dubnyk the Oilers with his new team.

Two things:

1) Staples should never be allowed to end his podcast with Ed Whalen's Stampede Wrestling catch phrase

2) The only "G" that counts in "E" is "gross", as witnessed by this article from today's article in the Herald (possibly NSFW content-but be sure to read the final sentence in the article):

That annoys me as well. It was bad enough when Jim Davis copied all of Ed's catchphrases.

Lost in this is the Oilers, now back under the watch of Lowe, using the press once again to start the departure of another player.

Seriously, what does this article do for any party?

In this case Rishaugh gets a scoop, the Oilers get some free airtime on TSN to satisfy Lowe's ego. He still thinks this is the 80s, where, becuae he's fractured the relationship with most GMs, has to resort to glorified press releases by one of his media lackies, to communicate with teams and agents around the league.

And for the general public, it gets conversation started, which inevitably leads to the Twitter keyboard warriors generally panning the player, making the impact and lower return they are going to get, much more palatable after a few days or week.

But, Lowe mainly wants to have it known to any and all, that the Oilers are desperate and open for business.

Many reasons to be thankful as a Flames fan, but having a history or professional GMs (outside of 3 years of a blowhard) who don't need to resort to media cuding to either seek the validation of their work or thier franchise, to help engage in team rumors, and mainly have the press do the work around the league that Lowe and his executive should be doing personally.

Next step as the snowball gains steam in this situation now that the public has been alerted to the potential Oiler plans for the player, will be an article tomorrow from Staples or Jones or one of the other twits saying the guy is a good hockey player but not a good fit for the Oilers, (with intonation that the culprit is Chia, who can't defend himself) and its time to move on. Thus, the article pumps him up to try and salvage any trade value, but gets fans to believe Chia is to blame for the less then stellar return they will get and a parting half shot at the player for not adopting the Oilers way.

Players leaving have happened so many times before, it's like clockwork.. Chia's departure started a couple weeks early with an uncertain column from Staples and it got nastier from there as the media snowball started rolling and dictating the narrative.

I'm getting a little concerned. This tank has the odor of another draft lottery banner.

Agent is unsure if staying with Edmonton is best for his client...that's pretty much a gimmie. Staying with Edmonton is never best for anyone.
