OMG this is painful watching Garcia. You don't see this very often. What's he going to score, like 15?

C'mon Tiger, keep it going.

So much more exciting with him in the mix IMO.

Really tough watching Sergio end his Masters in one hole. There's more than a few golfers with a temperament that would have seen a club go flying or something get smashed there, haha.

I'm holding out hope for pars and one more birdie from Hadwin today. Funny how the ESPN broadcast was so reluctant to show him for awhile there. I watched fifteen straight minutes of zero Hadwin coverage while he was freakin' co-leader!

The one announcer even said his name like he was reading it off a card for the first time, lol. "Followed by ..Adam Hhhhhhadwin".

They're saying it's really starting to bother him, wonder if he'll be able to finish.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how Garcia carded a 13. He dunked his 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th shot in the water. That means his 11th shot landed on the green. He then one-putted, which should mean he shot a 12. What am I missing?

2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th ended up in the water. 12th made it to the green.

Thanks - I had read he hit 4 in the water, but I guess it was 4 from the drop zone.

Assuming he can get over his Sunday mental block, no reason Jordan won't break Jack's record of six green jackets. If not for the 12th the past two years, he might be looking at four in a row.

Yup.

Quote:
At 1 over par for his round, Garcia was looking at the par-5 hole as a chance to get back to even and keep himself in contention for a second green jacket.

Instead, his 6-iron second shot from 206 yards landed on the green but spun off the putting surface and down the severe slope that fronts it and into the water.

From there, Garcia went to the drop area where he hit four more wedge shots that came back into the water, finally getting a fifth attempt on the green and 1-putting for a 13.

This is from Sportsnet:

Quote:
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Defending champion Sergio Garcia has made history — not the good kind — in the opening round of the Masters.

Garcia carded a 13 on the par-5 15th after hitting four shots into the water in front of the green.

He matched the highest single-hole score in Masters history.
Coupled with BBC's stellar reporting of:

Quote:
Garcia was two over when he teed off on the par-five 15th but his third shot, a short pitch over the water guarding the green, landed near the hole and span back, trickling down the steep slope.
The 38-year-old attempted virtually the same style of flighted shot on each subsequent occasion, before finally getting one to stay on the green - but his one-putt for a 13 equalled Tom Weiskopf in 1980 on the par-three 12th and Japan's Tommy Nakajima on the par-five 13th in 1978.
led to my confusion.

Speith now at -6. If he gets on a roll this tourney could be over early. Hopefully he doesn't run away with it, we need some Sunday afternoon drama on the course.

5 birdies in a row, he's now at -7. Unreal.

Gives one back, but as I said unless he just can't get over the mental block of 12, this thing is probably gonna be a laugher. Might need a guy in a Volkswagen to make this interesting.
