Would they like one Lucic to complete the band?

It's not cheating when it's expressly built into the rules.

As PeteMoss points out, if Bergeron can't play enough games to earn his bonus, the cap hit won't carry forward. It's a legit way to hedge your bets if you're not sure a guy has a whole year's worth of hockey left in him, and it doesn't require screwing around with LTIR.

It's unlikely that either of these guys were ever going to sign anywhere else but I wonder if this helps get the Kadri ball rolling. Boston was considered by some writers to be a possible landing spot for Kadri. Maybe now that he sees one more team out of the bidding he will start panicking a bit.

I’m no fancy stats expert but doesn’t having a bunch of Bruins on the right hand side just tell us Boston plays a solid 2 way system?

Except there’s a huge loophole exposed by this 10 game condition.

While these charts are interesting, what sort of bothers me is that the teams in the far upper right (eg. BOS, CGY, TOR) all had mediocre levels of playoff success. I'm not sure what it means, but in the big picture it looks like there is something which differentiates regular season team success (measured here) with playoff success.

Not that huge, since a player has to be eligible for performance bonuses in the first place to exploit it. And as I mentioned, you can't LTIR your way out of a bonus overage the following year.

10 games? It’s a bit silly. It’s a way of deferring cap.

Sure, but unlike LTIR shenanigans, it doesn't make the cap hit go away. It all has to be paid for.

The randomness of hockey.

And small sample sizes.

And overlapping logos.

There are a lot of Avs in the upper-right quadrant, but you have to zoom in to look for them, because most of those logos are covered by others.

Some players may not have liked him but Cassidy had them playing fantastic 2-way hockey.

You should maybe read the CBA on retention rules.

I assume he's going to retire a Bruin, and it's kind of awesome and amazing to see a player as good as Bergeron go his whole career with one team. He has been an incredible player, like the Lidstrom of defensive forwards. What a career to have spent with a single franchise.
