WB is such a joke, they just spent $90 mill to film Batgirl movie and then decided to not release it anywhere when it was pretty much finished. Marvel fans don't know how good they got it.

Must have been a pretty terrible movie then.
Comic book movies have jumped the shark for sure.
Only thing half decent is Batman related stuff.

They've been making some weird decisions overall since the Discovery takeover.

Batgirl had Michael Keaton as Batman and Brendan Fraser as the villain. Would have got a ton a views even if a total turd.

Is this a DC movie so bad, even the tax break was more appealing?

ALL ABOARD!

Why would any actor or director want to work on a DC project, other than for a pay cheque? Even then, they'll cancel the project and you won't see the residuals.

People are making way too big of a deal out of this. This was initially meant to be a smaller direct to streaming project, although it's budget did balloon. TV projects get shelved all the time.

It's not just DC, the new people running Warner Bros. since the Discovery merger have been making a bunch of cuts all over the place.

It looks like the new CEO wants to put his own stamp on things, whether they make any sense or not.

Movies with $100 million budgets that are in post-production and about to be screened for early reviews do not get shelved like this all the time though.

Netflix shelves projects all the time. It's the nature of made for streaming content. There's more of it, but it's also a lot more disposable.
It's basically something in between an actual movie and a pilot episode for a TV show.
It also sounds like it part of a bigger decision from the top up and could be related to the merger. HBO Max was pushing their superhero content, but now the parent company has decided that they want to save that all for theatrical films.
They're also probably looking at the luke warm response the Disney+ superhero shows are getting and going in a different direction.

The people at discovery saw how bad Netflix were ####ing up a good thing and said hold my beer and are now going to dismantle HBO.
It’s an impressive level of incompetence and ineptitude.

Last week, they killed a bunch of shows at TBS and TNT and are basically done with producing new original non-sports content for those networks.
A bunch of WB shows on The CW have been scrapped too. The Flash is going into its final season, which will effectively kill the "Arrowverse" since the only remaining DC shows on The CW are Superman & Lois and Stargirl, which aren't in the Arrowverse. They also have Gotham Knights scheduled for sometime in 2023, but I guess we'll see if that survives.

I have doubts that Flash will be released next year. Im thinking Aquaman 2 will be the last DCEU film then they go full reboot and become clones of the MCU in terms of tone of films.

LOL. It was irredeemable!

However, the New York Post, which broke the story on Tuesday, cited an unnamed source who said the budget had actually exceeded $100m and that the film had performed so poorly during early test screenings that Warner Bros decided to cut its losses.
“They think an unspeakable Batgirl is going to be irredeemable,” the source told the New York Post.

I have my doubts that's not just WB trying to save face. I've heard test screenings actually went okay and it was shown with unfinished VFX which usually causes scores to be lower. WB needs to sell DC comics tomorrow because they clearly don't know what to do with it. They just killed all hype of future projects for me and I'm the biggest fan boy I can only imagine what other people not as invested think.
