In both cases it’s way too late.
Colorado Avalanche and first couple years in St Louis Chris Stewart was a beast. Nobody was excited when we traded for shell of his former self 4th liner Chris Stewart and put him on our top line.
Hall would probably be similar at this point. 31 at the start of next season, injuries have hurt his effectiveness and on a downward trend.
But he’s still a much better player at this stage in his career than Stewart was at the stage the Flames acquired him.

Hall wouldn't be the greatest get nor would he be the worst. It'd be a meh move wither way.
Do we need another LW? I don't think so. But then again some ppl believe you can slap anyone on an opposite wing and everything will be hunky dory. I'm not one of those ppl.
Mangiapane finally can go back to his natural side. Huberdeau has the top spot all locked up. And the Looch and Dube round put the rest of the LW depth.
Flames still need another top 6 RW. Toffoli is fine. We need another though. And I really want to gamble on Kravstov. Even if it costs the Flames picks instead of carving out a D man.
Cheap, RFa status, top line upside. Boom.

No
Chance you are getting a 2nd for valamaki. With his cap hit I don’t think anybody would take home for free on waivers.

I think if we want a chance to win we keep the top 6 as is.
I think getting a top 6 center/rw is essential but we may been to get that at the trade deadline or trade picks/prospects. Saying that i would not move the 2023 1st or pelletier/coranato.
I would consider the 2024 1st tho. Especially as we could pick twice in the 2025 1st round.

It feels like two thirds of the league needs to clear cap space, and the other third knows it and is holding the rest of the league for ransom. Which team is going to flinch first and pay the cost to move cap space.
It does feel like we are in a holding pattern waiting for the Kadri news, and after that domino falls we will hear about guys like Stastny and Rodrigues.
I wouldn’t mind adding Rodrigues as he should be fairly cheap and on a short term deal. He showed last year that he can play given the opportunity.
I like Stastny and he seems like the type of player coaches love and will probably end up being a coach when he retires, but he isn’t the quickest of skaters, limiting his ability to play center full time. He would be a solid pick up, I would probably lean towards Rodrigues at this point though.

Betting that suddenly Mike Smith & the Oilers agree he's feeling much better.

I imagine they will keep Smith around in the event Campbell suffers a major injury and Smith magically feels healthy and ready to play.

I would be all in for Kravstov also.
Low risk high reward pieces are what a team like this should want to collect. Let them blossom under Sutter's magic.

It appears he does, which means if Campbell goes down and Smitty steps in, it's going to be even more flagrant abuse to have him return immediately to LTIR once Campbell is ready.

If being "beat up" is good enough to land him on LTIR the first time I imagine it should work anytime no? In the scenario I imagine once Campbell was getting close to coming back, whispers would leak that Smith is battling chronic issues and Skinner may start the last few games up to Campbell coming back and Smith would go back on LTIR. The league kind of opened themselves up to this type of abuse of the system by letting him go on LTIR the first time.

Keep seeing articles about the Islanders signing Kadri, and then other articles about Barzal maybe being available.
I assume its all BS, but that would be a pleasant surprise. Miss out on Kadri, but land Barzal?

Barzal would potentially be a franchise changing acquisition. Once he gets out of the Islanders, I'd see him returning to being a PPG centre. A 1/2 punch of Lindholm/Barzal gives the Flames the best centre depth they've had since the early 90s.
If this is in any way possible, the Flames need to be in on this.

Hanifin+Coronato for Barzal+3rd would be something I could get excited about. Not wanting to lose Coronato but also do not want to trade a future 1st to the islanders again after gifting them Dobson + 2 2nds for Hamonic.
Barzal’s speed would be a huge boost to this team and they could play he and Huberdeau together on a scoring line and then it would make sense to have Lindholm/Mangiapane form a second pair and Backlund/Coleman on the third line.
It would be absolutely nuts to go from Gaudreau/Tkachuk/Hanifin to Huberdeau/Barzal/Weegar in one offseason
