Bayern have signed Mathijs de Ligt for €67m plus €10m in add-ons.

people have laughed about Salihamidzic, but man, they are absolutely killing it this summer. Extremely impressive.

If more Premier League teams were smart they'd trying to purge the Serie A of talent.

Lots of talent in Serie A right now, and lots of teams that are cash strapped even the top of the table teams.

If you're not one of the big 6, but are in that mid-table range, then trying to take advantage of the Serie A would be a smart move.

Worked out for Spurs last year a bit, and better than overpaying for talent within the Premier League.

They are going to be serious about the CL next season.

Should have sold De Ligt to Chelsea, probably would have gotten close to 90m.

Barca are really, really mortgaging their future now.

Quote:
Barcelona have sold a further 15% of their domestic television rights to the global investment firm Sixth Street, the club announced on Friday, with sources telling ESPN the deal is worth around €320 million.

Sixth Street have now purchased 25% of Barca's income from LaLiga television rights for the next 25 years, having bought 10% for €207.5m at the end of June.

The rights were worth €165.6m in the 2020-21 season -- figures are not yet available for this past season -- so, based on those numbers, which will fluctuate, Sixth Street stand to make €41.4m annually from the deal.

Over 25 years, that would equate to just over €1 billion on their initial investment of €527.5m.
The operation will help increase their LaLiga-imposed spending limit, which stands at -€144m -- the only negative cap in the league -- but which is being constantly revised by the Spanish league.

Barca's squad costs last season -- which include wages and amortisation payments among other elements -- stood at around €560m.

Hard to even believe that this is allowed. It’s a recipe for disaster and for what? An old Lewandowski? Seems poorly conceived.

Oh...its INSANE.

What they're doing right now is trading future revenues for Magic Beans.

Ultimately, I wouldnt be surprised if Sixth Street regrets this move because they're assuming that Barca is 'Too Big To Fail' and they might be right, but man...you suck future revenue streams like this for immediate survival?

Barca might toiling in the Segunda Division in 20 years.

Their Player Operations budget for this season is currently -€144M and at the moment their strategy appears to be:

This is a bad play and I'd only do it if it were my only play.

Cripes that's so embarrassing.

This is where FIFA needs to update the rules. Yellows all day long for diving, no matter the superstar level.

Red.

A penalty can change the entire match so the consequence for trying to scam for one should be equal.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s the part of the game I hate the most, and easiest to solve now that they have VAR.

I also dislike ####housery and that seems easy to fix with yellow cards.

Unfortunately this behaviour is sweeping through youth soccer especially at the top levels.

VAR should add the ability for retroactive punishment.

Good to see Bayern have won the Bundesliga after 30 minutes of the season.

I had some hope this year that it would be a decent race. Dortmund had bought well, Lewandowski was leaving Bayern, and Bayern would have to put up with all their players playing key roles in a winter World Cup. Then Haller unfortunately got cancer, Bayern brought in Mane and de Ligt and might have this wrapped up by the time the World cup comes around anyway.

It is nice to see Davies getting some game action again though.

La Liga starts tomorrow and none of the players brought in by Barcelona have been registered...things could get very interesting here!

Its going to be an interesting season for Barca.

They sold huge chunks of their future revenue to be able to compete right now and its going to blow up in their face huge.

Couldnt happen to a nicer team of guys.

I guess they've been trying to cut wages and ship players out. I can't say I follow them too closely, but they've spent a lot of money this summer and it's obviously money they don't really have. Might be interesting to see where the chips fall.

I think Barca are going to be like someone showing up for an Olympic 100-Meter Dash thinking its a Potato sack race.

That being said...outside of Real Madrid, Spain is a complete and total joke at the moment, so who knows, maybe Barca will find some success?

I bought tickets for an AC Milan match in a few weeks at the San Siro. The tickets are in the nosebleeds, but excited nonetheless.
