A woman in northern France is to be put on trial on charges of insulting President Emmanuel Macron after describing him as 'filth' in a Facebook post, a prosecutor said on Wednesday. The woman risks a fine of 12,000 euros but not prison if convicted at the trial due to be held in June.
Quote:
The complaint focused on a post on her Facebook page made on March 21, the day before Macron gave a lunchtime interview to TF1 television to defend his controversial pension reforms that have sparked nationwide protests.

"This piece of filth is going to address you at 1:00 pm... it's always on television that we see this filth," she wrote.

Yeah, I wish I could get more context with this charge. I highly doubt everyone who insults the President gets hit with a €12,000 fine.

Look, whatever our differences may be, surely we can all agree that the mods now need to change Rubecube's location to "Under Granville St Bridge".

Good thing she’s not living in the States or Canada. Our leaders here are hammered daily.

Eh? She would be better off living here, she could get a "Baiser Macron!" sticker on the back of her Peugeot 208 without penalty.

This thing is still going on, and escalating. Riots, blocked ports and highways and the Blackrock headquarters were stormed. I'm starting to think that this might have more going on than being upset over simple pension reform, but all of the news says that it's simple pension reform.

Feels a lot like Occupy.

The subtly of Russian instigators, that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it evidence not needed.

Like I said earlier, I think its general anger that the French are now learning how fragile their pension system really is.

Think about that anger for a minute.

People about to retire...planning it for years...their plans have to change.

People just getting into the career based on now changed information.

I think there is lots of anger to go around.

But a lot of their physical targets for marches seem to have nothing to do with anyone who has anything to do with pensions. The protest seems to have more scope than that.

Well...yes. But when the French riot there tends to be a little...collateral damage.

Its fine, they're used to it. Its like a Vancouver or Montreal riot. Its just part of the deal.

By an extra 3 months. Or 6 months next year. Or 9 months the year after that. And so on.

First of all, I am completely 100% on board with Pension Reform. Just in general.

Secondly....have you met the French? They will set your belongings ablaze.

And they dont need much of a reason.

I lived in France in 1999 and 2000, and there's a particular "down the bourgeoisie" attitude that is pervasive. Every festival I went to had someone singing inflammatory political songs, even if it was for kid stuff. On all of the money pre Euro (maybe still?) was liberté, égalité, fraternité and boy did they believe in that.

You know how we all know some people that have strong opinions about stuff? That's everyone there it felt like.

That is actually part of La Marseillaise.

I was in Paris a few months ago and they were protesting McDonald's being open more than they liked.

"Okay...but is this something we need to be lighting dumpsters ablaze over? Can we not discuss this rationally?"

Liberte!!!

Ah....the French.
