Damn that sucks about Backlund.

Looks like the Preds have a ton of injuries as well. Forsberg, Arvidsson, Turris and Subban all out so should help with matchups with the loss of Backs considering his line usually goes up against the top lines.

Incorrect. The one where Backlund regularly gets more than 50% of the combined shot attempts when paired against McDavid.

Stats show that Backlund has consistently been an excellent defender against McDavid.

Sucks to see backlund out. Hoping Jankowski takes another step. I think he has lots to bring to this team with more opportunity. His size, strength, hands, and two-way game could turn him into a great second-line center. Plus he has good speed considering his size. Would love to see him shut down McDavid on Sunday.

Yeah, Edmonton with last change goes out of their way to keep McDavid away from the 3M line.

I put Lindholm centering Tkachuk and Bennett. Move Neal up to #1 rw.

Normally you don't fiddle with a good thing but at some point this is going to happen.

The bigger loss IMO is who slots in beside Lindholm on the PK.

Oh, And Call up Rychel!

If I were them, I’d be much more worried about how they can shut our top line down vs how we can shut their player down.

Taking shots from the blueline that hit the goalie's chest doesn't necessarily mean anything. What are the stats like for high danger chances?

I watch games and can careless about the advanced stats and McDavid regularly dominates the Flames with or without Backlund. I like Backlund but he may be the most overrated player on the Flames. He is decent defensively but is no way one of the best in the league when it really matters (i.e. playoffs)

How much less can you care?

That's great and all teams should try and take advantage of the line changes. 3M is Calgary's best defensive line so it makes sense they keep McDavid away from that line. However, being the best defensive line on one team doesn't necessarily mean much..

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
As others have noted, #Flames will be without C Mikael Backlund for at least Saturday/Sunday (Predators/Oilers). He's in concussion protocol, so no timeline for return.

So is concussion protocol all on the league doctors with no input from the team or player? Not a bad thing just wondering what the process is

Nevermind.. since this is a Flames forum, nothing critical can ever be said about the Flames palyers.

Backlund is awesome and the Flames would hang up the phone if the Oilers ever offered McDavid 1-1 for him. He is the best defensive player in the league and the Flames are so lucky to have him. There... this should get me some "thanks"

Actually I think a bit of adversity will be good for this team. Power through it and see if someone else grabs the chance. They have it in them to deal with this injury bug.

Not sure what all the steps are but they do the quiet room, then if they have symptoms they aren't allowed to work out until those pass, then then can gradually get back into it.

You have a right to your opinion. Other people have a right to the opinion that yours is full of it.

Thats kind of how I understand it. Do nothing (rest) until you are symptom free then start working out, testing yourself each day to see how far/long you can go without experiencing symptoms again. If you do have them, back to square one.

Ahh, can see how that means an indefinite timeline
