Any update on retiring Iginla’s number?
Sorry, didn’t know where else to put this. I haven’t heard anything on whether Iggy will get his number retired or if there will be that lame “forever a flame” thing for him. Anyone know?

No update that I have heard. Knowing the franchise though, "Forever A Flame" is the likely route.

Disagree, Flames will do this right. Number 12 retired and to the rafters

I hope they do, just wondering if any posters with inside info have heard anything pointing to that being the plan.

My guess is still, as it was a month or so ago, in Feb when Flames host the Isles.
Reason being, the retro jersey schedule has all Original 6 teams on it, plus all division rivals.
https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flam...ey/c-300298876
Only teams that don’t fall into that are St L, in last home before Christmas (hoping to get some last minute Christmas shopppers to buy one) and Isles game. No other significance of the date or because of the Isles, so may well be the date.

Ya, I will say this once. Iginla will NOT be Forever a Flame. I have a very good source. Mods feel free.
They are still determining when, even if this year....
Cheers

Ken King will be verbally "drawn and quartered" if this happens. For me #12 and #14 should be retired to the rafters.

They should have done it against Boston on October 17th.

What about Kiprusoff, #34 needs to be in the rafters too. Get on it already!

The simple fact that we are evening asking this question a month into the season after his retirement is unacceptable. This is the greatest Calgary Flame to ever play.
Ken King, you seriously suck

So, lets assume they retire #12.
Forever a Flame: Nieuwendyk, MacInnis
Retired: Lanny, Iggy, Vernon
1) Does that look right to you?
2) What do you do with the following: Kipper, Theo, Regehr

Vernon should've never been retired. I makes the FaF thing make no sense. It's not like Vernon's contributions outpaced MacInnis

Disagree entirely.
Vernon is right where he should be, they just dropped the ball on MacInnis.

MacInnis should be retired. So should Kiprusoff and Fleury. Regehr is a good "forever a Flame" candidate. And depending on how the rest of Giordano's career plays out, #5 might deserve to go to the rafters in some capacity too. Whether that's retired or FAF depends on whether he plays his career out in Calgary and the team sees any playoff success, I would think.

Vernon was good, not great, and not consistent at all. Average to below average to meltdown in the playoffs, except 89. If not for 89, he doesn't even get FAF. Credit where credit is due, he was all world that year. But he always left a little something to be desired in most other years, and he really benefited from CGY's insane offense at the time. JMO. But ya, they dropped the ball on MacInnis, a top 5 DMan while he was a Flame.

From 86-87 to 93-94, his first stint with the Flames, no other goaltender in the NHL won more hockey games, including Patrick Roy.
Yes Vernie benefitted from being on a good team....everyone did.

My ticket rep had a pre-game reception on Thursday and someone asked Ken King about Iggy's retirement. They had it planned for Feb but Iggy is coaching his kid's hockey tournament so the date is still being picked or something along those lines.
