I don't understand - you only get one debut, not 7.

what he means is Dave Mathews record company is really good at fiddling the figures to show that his new downloaded songs, what we used to think of as singles, are the most downloaded on their day of release, its bolloxs, just like the charts were bolloxs before we went digital, but I don't doubt in a segment of middle class thirty something dope smokers Mathews is popular

Rating artists by #1s is an argument from popularity - should be only one factor among many.

that's why I like these discussions, though. the different opinions are interesting.

for the DMB, I can't name one song of theirs.

for me they could be the definition of a "meh" band.

This is like an Onion article.

TED NUGENT SAYS EVERYONE KNOWS HE SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/ted-nugent-hall-of-fame/

Quote:
Ted Nugent returned to the theme of his lack of induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, claiming that there was no human being alive who didn’t think he should receive the honor.

Last year the veteran rocker, who's been eligible since 2000, said “political correctness” and particularly his membership in the NRA was behind the snub, and in 2011 called his exclusion an “embarrassing denial of historical and current truth and evidence.”

Ted Seems to have the pedigree: he's gone platinum 13 times in the states, he's iconic, has enduring classic hits, key figure in motor city madmen music scene, he's OG, started first band in 63, got popular in 67. There's worse resumes already in the hall, the fact he's not even a nominee is a bit telling that they might be biased against him.

I never liked Nugent's music, even before I knew him as a gun nut, so I may just be ignorant about his career. But still, a simple search of the Billboard charts shows Nugent had zero #1 singles. He had zero top ten singles. He had just one single to crack the Top 30. Also, he only had seven songs to crack the top 100, and they were all released within a 4.5-year span. So the guy had no big hits, and it appears his peak was short-lived.

The guy did sell many records but he never broke the top 10. Four of his albums ended in the Top 20 and they were all released during that same peak period.

Seems like if that's the criteria for HoF induction, wouldn't many acts deserve to be in?

Take another artist with a problematic personal life - Bobby Brown. He charted better than Nugent. He sold more records than Nugent. His popularity spanned a much longer time period. So if Bobby Brown is not in, why should Nugent?

Can't believe I spent an hour looking into this. In the end, I don't really care if they induct Nugent or not. I've been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it is a really fun place even though I'm not a fan of many acts in there. Go there during the day and then walk over to Jacobs/Progressive Field to catch an evening ballgame. Makes for a great day in Cleveland.

A lack of top charting albums and singles are the low point on his resume, but I wouldn't fault him for it, he's gotten there on the strength of his live shows and ability to build an audience, which is a respectable achievement in itself. I think "Stranglehold" and "Cat Scratch Fever" are classic rock songs, but he hasn't made much of an impression on me other than that, but I do respect the legacy he's built for himself.

I don't think Bobby Brown is a good candidate for the Hall at all. There's room for Soul and R&B singers who's sound had a an influence on rock music, but Bobby Brown was a teen dream pop star who had no impact on rock music. I'd rank his personal transgressions as significantly worse than Ted. I don't think he's outsold Ted either, he has 9 platinum albums in the US to Teds 13 and Ted has a much larger body of work overall.

"Yank Me, Crank Me"

I need you, baby
Like a dog needs a bone
I need you, baby
Like a man needs a home

I need you, baby
Like a cloud needs a rain
But I've got to have you
Cause you drove me insane

[CHORUS]
Well, you can yank me
And you can crank me
But don't you wake up
And don't you try to thank me

I need you, baby
Like a dog needs a bone
I think I got one of my own

I like your legs
They're soft to the touch
Wrapped around me
I like it so much

I need you, baby
And a couple your friends
I'll bring em round
And we can do it again

[CHORUS]
You're wasting my time

[CHORUS]

I said, I need you, baby
Like this dog needs a bone
I need you, baby
Like some man needs a home

I like your legs
They feel so soft to the touch
Wrap em round my face, baby
I think I dig it so much

Well, you can yank me
I said, crank me
But don't you waste my time
I don't want you woken up
Just so you can thank me

[CHORUS 3X]

pretty solid. I'm disappointed Kraftwork didn't make it, considering how influential they were. too underground and niche, I suppose.

The Zombies?

They had one album in 1965, one in 1968, and none again until 1991. Not that big a body of work.
