Should they just do away with the races and award all the long track medals to the Netherlands?
My goodness the domination of that sport by them is impressive.

What are the values of gold, metal, and bronze medals for determining overall standings?

There's no actual point value. They rank golds, the silver and bronze are used as tie breakers.

It all depends on what favours your country. Like NBC will change it from Gold medals to total medals and back again depending on what looks better for the USA.

There is no official ranking method. Officially, the IOC doesn't consider the Olympics to be a competition between countries and so there is no direct comparison.
For information purposes, they do provide a list of the medals won by athletes representing the different nations (they've only done that since the Barcelona games in 1992). That list is ranked by number of gold medals first; in the event of a tie, they are next ranked by the number of silver medals; if there is still a tie, the number of bronze medals is ranked.
Because there is no official ranking, it is common for the media in different countries to use whatever ranking makes their country look the best.
In Canada, it's usually ranked by total medals, with no consideration given to the colour. In 2010, when Canada started racking up the gold medals, we started to see them using the gold-first ranking method.
If you look at the CBC rankings right now, they have them sorted by total medals. Right now, Canada is in 4th either way.

for sure but as Katie Couric says all the Dutch do speed skate to work every day all winter on frozen canals so it is to be expected

I loved watching Kingsbury’s run and reactions to winning. You could tell before his run how much pressure he was feeling. Then the excitement at the bottom for his performance, then the pure elation and relief upon the result. Fantastic stuff.

So happy for Kingsbury, he deserved this so much with the absolute domination he’s had in his sport.

And this makes 4 Olympics in a row with a Moguls Gold. Heil in Turin, Bilodeau in Vancouver, Dufour-Lapointe and Bilodeau in Sochi, and now Kingsbury

As was Chloe Dufour-Lapointe, quite the stretch of podium appearances for Canada.

Am I the only one here patiently waiting for CofR thread for day 4 to see what I have to look forward to tonight.
Have to give him props for how great these threads are, doing a better job than any of the actual broadcasters are at outlining what’s on the docket for the day.

Yes, but the lack of international competition is a disaster for the sport.
I'll take every medal we can but it kills a bit of the exictement.
Out of 116 medals we won in all winter olympics, 115 have been won on the ice.
But all credits to Ireen Wust. That's gold on 4 straight olympics. The best Dutch female athlete ever.

It looks like a Snowboarding gold at the 2010 olympics for Women's Parallel Giant Slalom by Nicolien Sauerbreij.

That's correct. It was the 100th medal overall. And probably the most surprising one.

Agreed, great job. If you're wanting to look ahead there is a good matrix on the official site. They also have day by day schedules.
