Something about the way they have driven across three provinces and torched their car is starting to make me think these two might be guilty...

Yeah the prairies is really fast to get through.

I think Day 1 was GTA to Thunder Bay, Day 2 was Medicine Hat, and Day 3 was Golden, BC.

Northern Ontario has a lot or remote roads, but not so many routes to get anywhere. Hopefully that works against these guys. The OPP know where to do checkstops up there too - I got stopped more than once just doing random checks.

Yep, it's Janie. That was a typo. Around the net, there were posts relating the Janie's got a gun lyrics to the two suspected murderers.

Isn't that song about Janie killing her abuser? I just don't see the connection here.

Yes, it is.

The only connection I can see would be is if the murders are the abusers, and what they've done hasn't come to light yet, so they are running and trying to get police to kill them when they catch up...but that's a tenuous connection at best.

This interview with the one boy's father was pretty rough. Absolute horrible situation for 6+ families; such a selfish way to go.

Quote:
Alan Schmegelsky said he expects his son will die in a confrontation with police.

“He’s on a suicide mission. He wants his pain to end,” he said, breaking down into tears. “Basically, he’s going to be dead today or tomorrow. I know that. Rest in peace, Bryer. I love you. I’m so sorry all this had to happen.”

Even if his son is caught, his life will be over, the father said.

“He wants his hurt to end. They’re going to go out in a blaze of glory. Trust me on this. That’s what they’re going to do.

The father recalled that his son bought a nice black suit with his second paycheque from Walmart.

Now I realize it’s his funeral suit.
Sounds like the family had some serious issues, but as a father, can't imagine even having to think those sentences, let alone say them.

I really felt for the dad, and like you I can't imagine being in that situation. I hope that the two on the run come to their senses somehow and this doesn't end violently because I would also feel bad for the officers who have to deal with that. It's just a terrible situation.

How can two words contracted into a portmanteau lose meaning?

In common parlance, any white nerdy dude who's pissed off is an incel. I think that's what he means.

I don't think that's the case. There's usually a heaping helping of self-pity and violent misogyny mixed in.

Pretty direct/candid comments from his dad -- I wonder if there is something specific (an email/text, or a note left behind) that would lead to that conclusion. Either way, a really sad situation that hopefully doesn't lead to further loss or violence.

Statistically, it's probably accurate. These guys seem to fit the bill, especially the note in the most recent article where a friend stopped hanging out with them because they started posting nazi imagery on social media.

Pretty amazing that the essential equivalent to calling somebody a "virgin loser" in 2001 has once again become standard in 2019.

I mean, not all Incels are virgins. Some are just in a rut and unnecessarily mad at women/Chads/the "sexual marketplace"

Right, I'm just saying there's a lot of distance between what we know about these people and the misogynists online who literally hate women and refuse to seek help because they want to feel sorry for themselves.

I don't think it does well to dilute the meaning of the word.
