I'll give them a bit of a pass since all of Hernandez, Gurriel, Biggio, and Springer are not playing today. But yeah, some guys need to step up and hit a ball now and then. Jansen exploring a brand new "Mendoza line" below .100 is something special to see.

Gurriel, Biggio and Hernandez have all been abysmal at the plate too. They likely wouldn't be helping much if they were in there.

And yeah, Jansen is so bad with the bat it's unbelievable. I was hoping he'd have a bounce back season, but I certainly didn't think there was any way he'd actually be worse at the plate. Just a complete bum.

I'll give Roark credit. He can't throw at all anymore, but he had enough smarts to pitch out of the jam.

I don't understand why Montoyo didn't play Gurriel today with the off day tomorrow and another one on Thursday. With all the injuries I think you got to field your best team possible to try and get through it.

It seems like fans just can’t get over the way relievers are used now. I guarantee you that Montoya is 100% in lockstep with the FO and analytics on how much to use relievers. He to me very much is a “company” man and will toe the line. So no you’re not going to see relievers going 2ip even if they looked great in the first inning. And you’re not going to see pitchers pushed past 100 pitches.

Until rules changes come or the game changes that is not happening. This bullpen is stretched but has still managed to hold. We still I think lead the AL in era. We have Yates, Merryweather, Romano, Chatwood, Pearson, Hatch all injured and a couple other guys just coming back from injury. Would it be nice if Zeuch or Roark could have finished off Matz game? Sure it would have been nice to not use Dolis there but the same people who criticized bringing in a good reliever would have been upset if Zeuch had blown that game.

Anyway biggest issue right now is hitting. We need Hernandez and Springer back. Our catchers are useless now and our backup OF aren’t cutting it. Biggio and Semien needed to be pushed down the lineup. I don’t see any of our next wave of hitters ready yet. Groshans, Martin, Riley, Orelvis, Moreno, etc are all a year or more away.

With Springer and Hernandez on the DL, with the unexpected slow start for a few of the players. Its for sure not over-rated in my opinion.

If anything it's the pitching that has been the biggest surprise. (i.e. ERA is very low)

My guess, the offense will pick up, however the pitching will fall off.

Offense will improve, however the Jay's need to demote Baggio and find another 3rd baseman

Semiem is quickly turning into an automatic out. I’d like to see him drop way down in the order. I‘d like to see Biggio lead off. Not because he’s earned it, but because I think he’s at his best with the approach of just trying to get on base. I feel he’s too focussed on trying to produce and hit for more power right now. And having terrible at bats because of it.
