There is. And in draft dynasty video, he said thats false. Said Gunlers been compared to Kaliev a lot but he disagrees entirely with that I dea, even in the videos he's hustling and skating and minimal floating. I know full well those highlight reels are just that, highlights, but the fretting over his GAF seems to come from nowhere. Until proven otherwise, ill take the evidence presented before me before I go with heresay.

And because of that talk, the Flames may get a shot at drafting him.

That's totally fine, like I said-there's reasons for why he's been left out of international tournaments. You have your opinion, I have mine.

One problem with Gunler is that like many European prospects, he has very low point totals because he had bottom 6 minutes in a mens league.
There is always considerable risk in projecting point totals on players with limited production. I'm not sure if the Flames can afford to take this type of risk.

Seth Jarvis had 98 points in 58 WHL games. He has the high ceiling without the high risk.

But then again, there's a reason Gunler will probably be available at 19, while Jarvis probably won't be. Still, I think it's hard to justify taking Gunler over guys like Zary or Bourque.

Exactly right. I still like Gunler, but not more than some of the players that will be there at 19. I'm not a scout though.

I wouldn't mind trading up to prevent Askarov from going to Edmonton.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I don't think he gets past Carolina.

Especially a Russian, or a goalie. There’s no way the Oilers develop a Russian goalie properly

If he goes to Nashville he probably becomes the next Vasilevsky

I like Jack Finley with our second. 6’6 center who is almost young enough to be 2021 pick

Spencer Knight was notable last year, but nothing like Askarov this year. Not close, not by a mile.
.
If youre a scorched earth team with the value oick ottawa has, you can afford to take the franchise forward with your first pick and assume the risk reward with askarov. Seriously. When all is said and done, Askarov will be a #1. Hes a tier above Samsonov, Shetyerkin and Sorokin.

As for Gunler, I hope the Flames take him if the draft falls the way that mock does. I love his game, a lot.
I remember Button going on a Feaster-esque rant on TSN after the flames picked Jankowski. He is well plugged into the flames through his brother...but that doesn't mean I trust his hyperbole when it comes to prospects...

Draft Dynasty's channel just released his 11-20 ranking for the draft. I've been following his assessments all year and find him quite insightful in his evaluations of players. He includes a couple players that aren't in the consensus for this range with some super interesting takes.

Craig Button said similar things about Zach Fucale, in fact I remember his uproar when Fucale wasn’t drafted as high as he thought.

Agree with your sentiment that he is echoing what he is hearing but I sometimes wonder if scouts are just trolling him cause they know he likes to be “the smartest guy in the room”.

Yeah, he had Fucale @ #7, ahead of Lindholm, whom he had at #9.

Only one goalie out of that draft has even been in the NHL for more than a cup of coffee, and that’s Saros. Cal Peterson probably will as well.

That was one crappy draft.
