Default Clothes Dryer Top Protection

Hey CP - looking for some suggestions/ideas for this:

Over the weekend I had to buy a new washer and dryer. We went from front load units on pedestals to a more tradiontal sized units. the dryer is right beside the door tot eh garage, and as a result we will likely be dropping stuff on there and so I'd like to protect the top from getting all scratched, and so i am looking for some ideas on what to use to protect it.

The top is something like 30 x 30 - so I'd like to start with one sheet of some material that is 32 xx 32 to allow for some wiggle room.

A couple of thoughts I have had are:

- sheet of acryllic from home depot - only issue is that the front of the unit has a gentle curve, so getting a really clean fit could be an issue when working with acrylic
- i was thinking a silicone sheet as it would be a little easier to cut; however in looking at amazon, i can't find a sheet large enough. and i can find suppliers on google, but shipping costs seem higher than i'd like to pay. Maybe someone knows of a local supplier of this stuff
- i was also thinking about the 3M stuff used on vehicles - but i'd rather not have something stuck tot eh top of the machine, plus i worry about laying it and having a bunch of bubbles

anyone else ever see something that might do the job. I could just lay a towel over top, but i was looking for something that looked a little cleaner

Don't use silicone, it attracts dust and looks disgusting in a while. We use a normal woven floor rug without hard backing. Thick enough to protect against dents and easy to wash.

For me, I used a yoga mat/roll and just cut it to size. Works perfectly for us.

I put in a shelf over top of both my washer and dryer using melamine coated MDF that works pretty well.

the shelf would be optimal - however the washer is a top load so a shelf across both is not an option.

the yoga mat is a good idea, i think the wife has a mat that she does not use

We worried about the same thing but the tops still look fine 5 years-in on our LG units that are right by the garage door and also serve as a landing zone. They're micro-scratched, but somehow it looks even and still brand new - in a way.

I'd say install a proper counter top over it like many do, or just leave it be.

Nona (OP) is this your couch?
