Icon47 Ovi hits ref

Ovi absolutely flattened referee John McIsaac during the Boston - Washington game.

Would be interesting whether the refs will start to sink Washington regularly as they had done to Calgary after the Wideman incident. Or, hopefully, the refs will remove their marks from the Flames and place them on the Capitals.

This isn’t nearly as bad looking as Widemans. Ovechkin looks stunned and immediately stops playing.

The refs never had a mark on the Flames. Not when the incident happened and certainly not five years later with Wideman no longer on the team

Did you see that graph someone posted about Calgary's penalties that season? It was almost undeniable that there was a sudden, inexplicable spike in penalties.

Does everyone remember that team had Lady Byng winner Jiri Hudler in the top 6 and he was replaced with Matthew Tkachuk...

Pretty significant bump in PIMs right there

Except Wideman hit Henderson in January and Tkachuk didn't play his first game until October.

Calgary went from being among the least penalized to the most penalized instantly after the hit.

......... the graph highlights the timeline of the hit. Not the end of a season.

Also Tkachuk draws way more than he takes, especially that first year

LOL, I remember that her reaction rivaled Mrazek's the other night.

IIRC, we were first in the NHL for fewest minor penalties per game pre-hit, and 29th post-hit.

That said, it is impossible to really say that we remained "marked" into the following season. Far too much changed, including the addition of Tkachuk.

Looks accidental to me, ref skating backwards didn't see Ovi and Ovi assumed ref would've gotten out of the way

Ovi had that "Oh $*!+" look right after it happened.

Anyone with any intelligence knows that was purely accidental.

Yeah, that was about as malicious as Tkachuk's hip check on Kozari last week.

This is an attempt to manufacture controversy.

Unfortunate, but a nothing play.

I can't believe there are still people out there who think Wideman intentionally hit the linesman.
