Amazing!!! So ####ing proud of this kid!

Saw him play live for 2 years here in Victoria and he was always worth the price of admission. Dude just battles for everything he gets, so happy for him and his family. Against all the odds he’s about to play for his hometown team. He seems like a great kid too. Stoked!

Big, if true.

I think the “smallest player” thing with Phillips was “smallest drafted player”. Gerbe and etc were undrafted. As far as I remember, Gaudreau is the currently “smallest drafted player” of all time. Phillips is slightly smaller than him.

Actually, he'd be the smallest if that were true.

Rocco Grimaldi of the Nashville Predators is shorter than them both, at 5'6". The Panthers drafted Grimaldi 33rd overall in 2011.

Matthew's last name is Phillips.

We played Colorado yesterday, and their goalie -- who is injured -- has the first name Philipp.

Not a coincidence.

Could it be due to weight? 141lbs, is alot lighter than any I've ever seen before.

Yeah bigger news is who is out tonight.

We already had an extra forward on the roster that could have played 4th line. Phillips coming in makes me think it's a top 6 forward coming out.

Maybe one of Gaudreau, Mangiapane, or Tkachuk.

I think Tre has found inspiration from a vintage copy of NES Ice Hockey and realizes a roster of smaller faster players can beat the fat dudes with heavy shots.

Or....

As if Ryan, Dube, and Mangiapane weren’t enough to convince Gaudreau he should be at least attempting to battle for pucks, Phillips has been brought in to further reinforce the fact that indeed small guys don’t have to shy away from all checks.

I remember Corey Millen being tiny tiny, like even by Fleury standards.

In my mind he was 5’2”. Just looked him up though, apparently he was 5’7”.

So, carry on.

He was shorter than Fleury. I remember when he got traded to the Flames, Fleury said he could eat an apple off Millen's head.

Phillips isn't replacing a regular unless they're hurt.

And according to the projected lineups, no one is hurt.

If someone is injured wouldn't they have tied it in to the call-up announcement?
