Default Shooting in Lower Mount Royal

Seems like this guy has been Donald Trumping his way to personal riches in the real estate world for some time in Calgary. Might have just cashed the wrong check....

I'm guessing this goes back to Platinum Equities.

I posted a new thread about the same time, mine can be deleted. Here were my comments:

Riaz Mamdani of Strategic Group was shot this morning. http://calgaryherald.com/news/crime/...ed-to-hospital

The news article linked suggests the motive for the attack is not known, but then mentions he's alleged via lawsuits to have caused or contributed to investors losing hundreds of millions.

Reports are he is going to survive the attack.

Over the years I've heard from disgruntled investors in Concrete Equities, Platinum Equities, etc., and it was always in my mind that given the sheer number of people who claim to have been wronged, for so much money, sometimes even life savings, it was only a matter of time until someone goes over the edge and physically attacks some of the people alleged to have caused those losses.

I forgot about this for a long time, and didn't know there were two class action proceedings going forward.

It could be one of those many Plaintiffs had something to do with this. I don't condone trying to kill or hurt him in any way, but I can not say I'm surprised either.

He certainly ticked off his fair share of people on the industry over the years, although I will say that Strategic's reputation has been improving somewhat recently.

It amazes me that the Concrete/Platinum guys could steal hundreds of millions of investor money and never face a criminal charge. Those Lucid guys eventually got criminally charged for their 20+ million frauds but only got a joke of 9 months house arrest and a seven year securities ban.

I'm seeing there are lots of articles on this stuff that posts more than I ever heard. For those interested:

http://www.jasondunn.com/files/Alber...e-Equities.pdf

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/co...investors.html

http://albertaventure.com/2012/11/pl...om-the-get-go/

In that last article, note the firm involved is also associated with Byron Nelson, currently running for the Alberta PC leadership.

I've met Riaz Mamdani a few times through our business with his company. All I can say is that whenever I have dealt with him he's been nothing but a gentleman and extremely professional.

My thoughts go out to him, his family and all of his colleagues at Strategic Group.

He comes across as very graceful and intelligent, no doubt about it. And I don't know anything actually bad about him other than what has been alleged. There are a lot of people who claim by fraudulent means he with others defrauded hundreds of millions. That doesn't mean its true. This is going to be a story to follow.

Blaine Kennedy and Adam Drybrough. Their punishment never fit their crimes.
