Details of the new console will be released on October 1, and you can subscribe to updates at their website. Tallarico said the team is developing a new controller as well. But he said the console will not match the capabilities of modern consoles and it won’t be expensive. At launch, Tallarico said there will be 10 games ready, and he said the machine will run an emulator to play all the old games.
It seems like everyone is trying to cash in the retro console craze started by Nintendo. There are also new mini Atari and Commodore consoles available.
a few years ago my brother bought me the intellivision flashback console for Christmas. Comes with 60 games installed. Funny thing was, I bought him the exact same game for the same Christmas.
I still have some Intellivision games...system bit the dust in a fantastic electrical meltdown years ago. I've also got a Colecovision that has a mostly fried video chip.
I loved Coleco. We had a ton of games for it. I just don’t think any of that holds up well now though. I don’t really see the point of it except for stoking Gen X nostalgia. Everybody is used to better graphics and more exciting gameplay. The novelty of this would wear off fast.

It started long before Nintendo, actually. But Nintendo's the only one that's produced a high quality product.
That Commodore 64 mini releases in October and I'm going to buy it. Just for nostalgia purposes. But it also comes with the original c64 basic, so it might be fun to tool around with that as well.

Whenever I think about Intellivision all I think about is the commercials with George Plimpton. “It’s intelligent television! Also, Atari sucks...”. That, and the weird controllers.

It was a good console for the time, with a really stupid disc controller. It had better graphics than the 2600 and more button options with the controller.
As an Atari 2600 owner, I was jealous of the graphics improvements when the Intellivision came out. But in terms of gameplay, the Atari always felt more fun. When Activision started making games, graphics quality improved enough that I didn't really care anymore. The next time I remember being blown away by graphics was when they showed screenshots of Pacman on the Atari 5200.
I will say, the Atari 2600 paddles were an innovative controller, and perfect for sliding games like Circus or Bomberman. If only they made Tempest for the 2600. I always wondered why paddles never caught on in other consoles, except maybe as steering wheel controllers.
And finally, I never knew who George Plimpton was until I read his Sidd Finch article. My first thought was "Is this the same George Plimpton?", then "Finch is going to break all of the records!", and finally, a month later, "I've never felt more disappointed yet in awe of an article in my (young) life".
Man this brings me back.
In my house we always had weird gaming consoles
Started with a Colecovision
My favorite games on that were Lady Bug and Mouse Trap, both were sorta like Pacman but actually in my opinion much better. We also had Donkey Kong, DK Jr, Zaxxon and a bunch of others
We soon added the dreaded Adam Computer which was a complete POS and ran everything off of tapes that always broke. We had that stupid game Dam Busters that was impossible.
There was also an awesome game where you started on a chess board with a bunch of pieces each with special powers, when you moved to a square with your opponent on it- you would face off 1:1 to see how got the square. I remember one character threw a boulder, another shrieked (the banshee). Does anyone else remember that game?
Anyhoo later on I got a Commodore 64 and had TONS of games. Loved it.
Never had the popular consoles - always had this weird stuff that made finding games to buy really hard.

I really liked the intellivision game Utopia with 2 islands that was a bit of a management simulation with rain and weather that affected agricultural output.

I don't know about the Adam computer, but on the Apple II, it was called Archon
