I was just going to write something similar. He is just another David Pratt imo.

I'll always remember Eric Francis as that plucky journalist who stood up for the noble billionaires trying to drain every last cent out of this city during the last election. Good riddance, you gutless shill.

Hopefully the person who replaces him does a little less tabloid type sports journalism.

Well to be fair, how many of those times was he right? I know I’m in the minority but i don’t mind Francis.

Quite possible he will not be replaced. I can see Postmedia having a single "NHL columnist" covering both Alberta teams.

I expect a lot of other long-tenured newsroom staff will be heading for the exits as well.

Oh God. If there's one thing that would make people miss Eric Francis, it would be making one of the Oiler sycophants also cover the Flames.

It would be worse than when Sportsnet makes Spector cover the Flames.

My guess as well, with wire stories picked up to fill in.

Yeah, it does look Ike Francis with take Millions' gig as host on the Flames broadcast. And will Sarich take up Francis' role now?

Man, quite a few apologists in here. The last straw that broke the camel's back for me was this sequence of events.

"Sean Monahan doesn't hate to lose enough"

cut to garbage bag day and we find out that Monahan was playing through serious injuries and ended up having 4 surgeries at the end of the year. Basically playing with one hand for half the season.

I'm sorry, I don't give reporters a pass for getting it that wrong and defaming the character of players who leave it all out there. That's just the latest example of an entire career of this sort of stuff. I will not miss Francis in the slightest.

My favorite Francis memories are him getting schooled by D Sutter in press conferences for asking stupid questions. Sutter has no time for fools.

I liked Francis and Rich Sutter together between periods. He was good with Sarich, too. I think all three together, with Francis replacing Millions would work.

I find the claims that his "mom got him the job" to be unfair. He has been able to hold down a long career in the newspaper business because he was good at it. You may have disagreed with his viewpoints (I often did) but he wouldn't have stayed employed just because of a family relationship.
Nothing but best wishes to him from me.
I have nothing against the person. I'm sure he's a decent man. However he clearly went to the media school of Bruce Dowbiggin with his abrasive approach which made him hard to like professionally. Regardless of what you think of him Calgary sports fans have kind of been fortunate as even Francis love him or hate him is far superior than the hacks that comprise Edmonton media or even Vancouver for that matter. Terry Jones has embarrassed himself over the last decade and needs to retire and Vancouver has plagiorists like David Pratt alive and well in their sports media.

Well said, except that camels back was broke well before the Monahan doesn't compete drivel. I think I actually liked Sutter more just for how much he pissed off Francis. Good riddance.

Long overdue. Good riddance.

I remember circa 2010 or so when he wrote a bunch of his 'controversial' articles, and some would contradict others. I found his writing style deficient, I felt that at times he was making stuff up, and though I do not want a rah rah cheerleader, I felt he was overly critical of the Flames at times, particularly Darryl Sutter. It seemed more personal than professional.

I hope he gets replaced with an actual journalist. Too bad it didn't happen sooner - George Johnson should have been the guy.

I am sure he is great personally, and his charity work is excellent, but I had absolutely no patience for his articles.

You guys will be thinking that Francis was awesome when you read the byline "As reported by Mark Spector"

As in the Flames pummeled the Oilers 11-0 as the Oilers were the better team all night and the mighty Oil were screwed by a NHL Conspiracy.
