New information for Pokemon Sword / Shield this morning.

And one piece of it is amazing.

The Evil Rival team is based on Football Hooligans - just a genius piece of writing for a game that is meant to be set in the U.K.

This is probably the most creative Mario Maker 2 stage i've seen. They made it like a first person adventure game, complete with mini-map.

There's also this on the market too:

I believe that you have to take apart your current full-size dock and put the internals into this replacement - but it's much smaller!

There’s a very long Dragon Quest XI demo out and it’s great! I hit a natural stop point about two hours in but then the game just kept going... and you can transfer your progress over to the full game once it’s out, so not a waste either. The port is excellent. And the orchestrated music might as well make it a whole new game, it’s so, so much better than the trash MIDI in the original. Definitely recommend you check out the demo, at the very least!

Review embargo lifted for Astral Chain, and looks like Platinum Games may have another critical hit on their hands. Currently at 88 on Metacritic.

Astral Chain, FF VIII, Star Wars Pinball and Link's Awakening.

There's a few others I'll probably pick up in the future, but I'm also still only 20 hours into FE, so I'm getting backlogged.

I'm buying a switch soon and I'll be getting Zelda and Blasphemous that launches in September 10th.

September Direct is tomorrow at 4PM. They always seem to announce a surprise game for late in the year and whatever Wii U port will release just after the new year at this time, so should be interesting.

One of the fun rumours is a port of Overwatch.

Yeah have to think we get an exclusive announcement for December - February time frame here since that area is pretty bare right now.

Probably a Wii U port of some kind would be my guess, last year in the Sept. Direct they announced New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for Jan. 11.

These are the exclusives that are announced for the Q4 and beyond this year.
  • Luigi's Mansion 3: October 31, 2019
  • Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics: November 1, 2019 (Note: Sega published not Nintendo)
  • Pokemon Sword and Shield: November 15, 2019
  • Animal Crossing: March 20, 2020
Last year we got
  • Mario Party: October 5, 2018
  • Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee: November 16, 2018
  • Super Smash Bros: December 7, 2018
  • New Super Mario Bros Deluxe: January 11, 2019
  • Yoshi's Crafted World: March 29, 2019
So based on that feels like the potential for 1-2 games in that December - February time frame.

With a little bit of help from third parties: Doom Eternal, Super Lucky's Tale, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, all the AD&D CRPGS, Shantae and the Seven Sirens and Trials of Mana all come in that release window, iirc.

Also, in a humourous twist of fate, a bunch of Sony fanboys are review bombing Astral Chain and Fire Emblem on Metacritic because they are Nintendo exclusives. Usually it's Nintendo fans who are port begging.

I didn't realize people actually paid attention to metacritic user reviews.

Yeah they likely do but Nintendo has been consistent with trying to release an exclusive Nintendo published title at least every 1-2 months since the Switch launched, even if it's just a port.

It's actually pretty crazy just how much 1st party exclusive content they put out for there systems compared to the other big console makers (Sony, Microsoft).

Here's a list of all Nintendo Published Switch Games since launch:

2017
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - March 3, 2017
1-2 Switch - March 3, 2017
Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! - March 3, 2017
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - April 28, 2017
ARMS - June 16, 2017
Splatoon 2 - July 21, 2017
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle - August 29, 2017
Pokkén Tournament DX - September 21, 2017
Fire Emblem Warriors - September 28, 2017
Super Mario Odyssey - October 27, 2017
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - December 1, 2017

2018
Bayonetta 1 & 2: - February 16. 2018
Kirby: Star Allies - March 16, 2018
Nintendo Labo - April 20, 2018
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - May 3, 2018
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition - May 17, 2018
Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido - June 8, 2018
Mario Tennis Aces - June 22, 2018
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - July 12, 2018
Octopath Traveler - July 13, 2018
Super Mario Party - October 5, 2018
The World Ends With You: Final Remix - October 11, 2018
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! - November 16, 2018
Pokémon Let's Go, Eevee - November 16, 2018
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - December 7, 2018

2019
Fitness Boxing - January 4, 2019
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - January 11, 2019
Tetris 99: February 13, 2019
Yoshi's Crafted World - March 29, 2019
Nintendo Labo: VR Kit - April 12, 2019
BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! - April 26, 2019
Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer feat. The Legend of Zelda - June 13, 2019
Super Mario Maker 2 - June 28, 2019
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order - July 19, 2019
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - July 26, 2019
Astral Chain - August 30, 2019
Daemon X Machina - September 13, 2019
LoZ: Link's Awakening - September 20, 2019
Luigi's Mansion 3 - October 31, 2019
Pokemon Sword/Shield: November 15, 2019

2020
Animal Crossing: New Horizons: March 20, 2020

Just based on history I feel like there is at least one Nintendo published title for that time frame that will be announced for that window still, likely a port of some kind.

Their output has been way higher due to shifting resources from 3DS to Switch. Stuff like Link’s Awakening and Pokémon would’ve been on the dedicated handheld in the past. And by partnering with third party developers for exclusive games, like Marvel UA3 and Astral Chain. It’s really working out and we’re seeinng the most Nintendo published software for a platform we’ve ever seen.

Nintendo's been the largest game developer in the world for years now. Likely right since the 80s. So no surprise they pump out a lot. Especially since, as OOTC says, the handheld and console divisions are focused on one device. That, and they have a crazy web of second party studios and contracts with third parties.

And the one thing that potentially argues against a December release is that that was likely supposed to be Animal Crossing's slot. Maybe they move up a smaller title (like the probable Wii U port) and throw it up against the wolf that is Pokemon in its release window, but maybe not. The only Wii U port that I think would do well in that position is SM3DW. The rumours are that the port to be announced might be something like The Wonderful 101, which isn't going to do much in either December or January.

All the Wii U ports are also a huge factor...many of these games took 5+ years to develop but were easy conversions from last gen since the hardware hasn't been upgraded much other than portability.
