Amazing effort late in the game by Pelletier, who set up Hendrix Lapierre for what seemed like an easy goal but got absolutely robbed.

Edit: Video right above my post

Pelletier was fantastic all game and even had a fantastic 3-on-5 PK shift where he won the faceoff clean allowing his D-man to send it down the ice.

Zary had a decent game (one assist plus a few very nice scoring chances) but Pelletier was definitely up there as one of the most noticeable players all game.

All this talk about being late for practice is the perfect excuse for me to re-post this Oldie But Goodie....

Zary has a good understanding of the center position-he shows good positional awareness all over the ice, and made some good defensive plays in the first. He also knows how to get open and where to be in the offensive zone.Very good IQ. There was, however, a few instances where his lack of top speed put him behind chasing the play. All in all, nice to see our guys putting up a good effort.

FREE and LEGAL stream for tonight's game 6PM MT:
https://video.hockeycanada.ca/en/c/n...s-white.105689

Line up for tonight. Pelletier moved up the line up to play with Bourque and Perfetti. Zary moved to wing with Dach. Forester and Schwindt were banged up last night and will not play.

Zary with Dach, I like the sounds of that. Looking forward to watching as much I can tonight.

Both moves are encouraging for our guys. Pelletier showed last night that he deserves a bigger shot.

Zary in front causing mayhem, Dach scores off a rebound.

Not sure if Zary touched it though.

Jakob Pelletier has been the best player on the ice in the first period, from my viewing

Based on what I've seen these 4 periods, Pelletier is a total gamer. Making an impact each and every shift whether it's offensively or defensively. Been one of Canada's best forwards over these first 4 periods.

Zary has definitely had his moments, but he's run into some trouble with the puck on his stick. Also couldn't get the puck under control to send his teammate for a clear break. He's definitely still shaking off the rust but at this point in time, I wouldn't say he's making too much of a case for himself as a player who's on the outside looking in.

First period thoughts:

Pelletier: shows that you can make an impact shift to shift with great skating and a high compete level. He got two of the best scoring chances that period for team Red and set up a linemate for a great chance on a turnover.

Zary: I really liked what I saw out of him that period. He bobbled the puck once and was highlighted for turning the puck over, but his line is carrying the play every shift (helps having Dach) and he's involved constantly. I see him making smart passes and it is clear that he's got excellent vision. He reminds me a bit of Matthew Tkachuk on the rush in that he's not a burner, but people rarely catch him and he has a great awareness of everyone's position and an ability to use his body and stick position to make plays without getting checked.

Byfield: showed off some skill and looked like he'll be a top player on the team. Kicked in a goal which was called back but won the draw that lead to it and used his size to outbattle the D, so still some good stuff in there.

Perfetti: very noticeable on the ice, even if I didn't like some of the plays. He has the puck a lot and has managed some good passes. His skill level is good and his desire to make plays is fun to watch.

Dach: huge, can skate, has good hands. What you would expect from a full time NHL player. He will be important.

Cozens: didn't see too much from him that period. Obviously a great skater but saw him handled pretty easily on some plays by opposing D.

A nice thing about the 2 Flames players is that even if I wasn't interested in them as a Flames fan they were both highly involved and mentioned often.

I think Zary tipped that Dach shot causing another rebound goal, this time for Tomasino.
