How can it not be the best? The flames have never win 9 in a row before. That literally defines: "best streak" since relocation.

We're all having fun nitpicking over the Atlanta Flames' record.

Shaddup you face.

I'm taking it very literally. Apologies, it is fun to nitpick.

Well, taking things literally is very much in the spirit of nitpicking.

Back when Atlanta did it, there were no OT or SO wins. After 60 minutes if you were level, the game was a tie and the winning streak was over. This was also the case for the 88-89 Calgary Flames.

If we still had the same points system, the current streak would be 3 games. But that said, because the point system is the way it is, team will naturally approach games differently. For instance I've heard it said if all games were made 3 pointers, we may see more games settled in 60 minutes as there would be a greater incentive if teams got 3 for a regulation win and 2 for an OT or SO win.

So, aside from the fantastic surprise of this run and how it has contributed towards the likelihood of a playoff campaign, how do others measure this streak against past franchise marks?

This is why we can't have nice things. Someone always wants to downplay one thing or another. It'd be nice for once if the Debbie downers let others have something for more than 48 hours before launching the bird poo onto everyone's shoulders.

Calgary Flames historical moment? Not good enough. #grumpycatmeme

Calgary Flames' winning streaks are the best winning streaks. Tremendous winning streaks. You know. I know. Everyone knows. You're going to get tired of all the winning, let me tell you.

We're going to tie that record and make Pittsburgh pay for it!

This post is awesome if you read it in Donald Trump's voice.

Out of thanks but 100% true. All Flames fans should enjoy this streak, they are very very rare. Just enjoy it.

This. I would think that because of the recent overtime changes, it can in fact be harder to keep a winning streak going due to the 3-on-3 OT and shootout format. You can be a great 5-on-5 but as soon as the ice opens up in OT it becomes anyones game. Luckily for us, the Flames thrive in the current OT format in comparison to lets say, the Kings. In fact, 3 wins in the current 9 game win streak have been in OT/SO.

Think about the Flames 2-1 OT victory against the Kings a couple weeks back, streak could have ended at 4 if Doughty's pass gets through to Kopitar cleanly in OT which ironically immediately wins us the game due to Backlund defence and a Brodie breakaway.

I'd say it makes the streak that much more impressive.

The title of the thread sucks (I had only 3 hours sleep because I was up watching the game live last night) but it was really about comparing eras, achievements and how rule changes impact on comparisons.

To be perfectly clear I'm ####ing buzzing about this run.

Edit title changed to reflect what I meant.

We should just be enjoying this streak for what it is. This is why we can't have nice things.

How about this: if Calgary keeps winning they will have the greatest winning streak in Flames history while Atlanta will have the greatest regulation winning streak in Flames history. Happy now?

Is it the best? Yes. Winning as many games as possible, hell, more games than possible, is the best thing for the Calgary Flames.

Win all the games!

I'm old enough to remember the Atlanta Flames' winning streak and the game that ended it. An HNIC loss to the Montreal Canadiens, a legendary team then in its absolute prime. It was exceedingly rare to watch the Habs play Atlanta on national TV; in fact, it might have been a first. I was thrilled with the result (Habs fan then). I had no idea I'd be cheering for the Flames with all my heart--and for the rest of my life--in two short years...

Snap.

I was 9 when they were on that run. Practically everyone in our class were Hans fans. The year above were Leafs fans.

More MTL fans on the ice than in the crowd.
