Stampede 2012
Here's the annual Stampede thread. Btw, haters, no one's forcing you to read this, please, just turn around and leave. Unless you're turnedthecorner, in which case, no Stampede thread is complete without your complaining.

And the stampede concerts are, of course, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley with the Band Perry, and Johnny Reid
No news about new and notable food items yet. My main interest is what can we clog our arteries with, this year.

The only time I have gone to the Stempede was when I was eight. I need to get back one of these years to enjoy it to its full potential.

Good thing you made it 2.5 months early, Calgarians may have forgotten about it otherwise.

You forgot Corb Lund playing a few shows here in July. The perfect Stampede band, in my humble opinion . I was a little disgruntled when they stopped coming to the coke stage.
With all the marketing on CNN, stampede night in Anaheim, etc, I can only hope they've crafted a decent enough logistics plan to accommodate the larger than normal numbers. I'm excited with all the press this years stampede is getting but gongshow crowds/lineups are a bit of a norm, let alone on the 100th anniversary.
Hope we can avoid the annual stampede rain/snow/hailstorm as well but that's probably too much to ask..

This is generally the time of year I make this thread. Been doing it since 2009. Just doing my part to make you miserable.

Forget music, wasn't Lana Tailor at Lounge Burger last year?
Either way, I haven't been down to the grounds in a few years. Plan on returning this year for sure.

Where are they playing? I only listed the bands playing the big stages on the grounds.

I can't believe I've been to every Stampede that I can ever remember, and I'm going to miss the 100th. Doesn't seem right.

EPCOR Centre I believe. They originally only had a couple weekday shows scheduled and then immediately after I got tickets to one of those shows they suddenly posted some weekend dates, 14th and 15th I think. I think they've maybe played once or twice in the past 3 years in Calgary over Stampede so this must be a part of the 100th anniversary..
As I mentioned earlier, they have to be the perfect Stampede Band. A roots Albertan country culture band playing at a festival celebrating... roots Albertan country culture. No idea why they suddenly seemed to disappear off the radar here after they played at the Coke stage a few years back but I'm definitely glad to see them here this year. Good live show if you haven't heard of them at all or have but just haven't seen them live yet.
EDIT: Didn't even notice the post above...

i bet you secretly go every year, opening day. you pay your $10 admission, grab your bag of mini donuts, sit on a bench somewhere and just munch away muttering about how stupid all the people around you are for enjoying Stampede. then you go home, feed your cat, and watch Degrassi reruns for the next week, periodically checking on the CP Stampede thread. i sense a dark ritual around that whole week for you

I last went to the grounds 2 or 3 Stampedes ago. It was a company function and an excuse to get drunk, and I still only went after co-workers nagged me incessantly. I took a flask and was drunk before the Rodeo, had some overpriced beers in Nashville North while playing flip cup, went home by 7 and called in sick the next day. It was about as ordinary an experience as can be imagined.
I don't have a cat. I've never seen a Degrassi episode because screw Canadian content.
