Some of us are thinking about doing an afternoon pub crawl, as who doesn't like getting drunk while the sun is still out?

What other things am I missing?
One thing that I think always gets overlooked is just doing some of the actual stampede events.

Take in the Rodeo, and Chuckwagon races and make a day of it. I find that a lot people my age (23) are hesitant to go to those events and would rather just sit in the beer gardens and drink.

Really the better option is to go drink at those events, and have some entertainment while you are doing it.

Go to the Rodeo, hit up Nashville North or the Midway, and then head to the Chuckwagon races. Plus they end early enough that you still have time to go drink some more after the Chucks.

I've been to the rodeo/chucks/grandstand show before, but my girlfriend hasn't, so I think we'll do that this year. Apparently Superdogs is a pretty good show too.

Mostly I'm asking as I have a friend coming in for the second weekend of Stampede and he'll want to do some partying. I'm looking for stuff like the Bull-Shooters breakfast (except I don't feel like spending $100 on breakfast haha).

My favorite part of Stampede is just taking in the flavor downtown, you don't even have to be on the grounds to have a good time.

Head down Stephen Ave., or Eau Claire/Prince's Island Park and see some buskers. Check out the vendors. Shout a YAHOO at a tourist!

Get to a bar at noon with your friends and get crazy. Check out specials, themed events, and packed patios.

Hit up some of the great concerts at the nightclubs. From DJ's and electronica, rock and roll, metal, local flavor, and of course country music, a lot of acts get booked in July.

It's a good time to take in the bustle of the city. Hopefully we get some warm weather this year.

The best thing to do at Stampede, by far, is to watch the chucks and grandstand on the tarmac with a bunch of friends while crushing draft beer. Its basically a kegger.

Unless you have children or are with your elderly parents, you should never sit in the stands.

Is there a list of the actual times the bands play at on the Coke Stage? Not just the line up. Or is it too soon?

I've tweeted the Stampede asking what this structure is going up between the casino and roundup centre. At first I thought it was the Cowboys tent, but this thing seems much more solid than that:

Wonder what this is? by BigtimeAa, on Flickr

Anyone here know what it is?

So apparently this is most likely the Cowboys tent for stampede, supposed to be 30,000sf and 60' tall. So this assembled section may be a second level (stage?) on the one end of the tent.

I bet a bunch of my fellow residents are going to lose their sh*t over this. Haha.

I get it off, but will drop my wife and kids off at the parade, abuse the free parking at work to get some stuff done in the morning before I am off for the afternoon. Anyone know how bad traffic downtown is (south of train tracks) early Friday morning?

Not downtown, so not I. Our company breakfast is that morning, however.

Since Cowboys took over the food/beverage/entertainment operations for the Stampede Casino, this is likely correct.

Man, I'm really stoked for Stampede this year. Its been a while. Definitely going to throw down pretty hard.

"They will be travelling west from the 9th Avenue and 3rd Street S.E. area. "

I have parade seats on the 6th Ave so from this report, would Will and Kate's motorcade travel from the Ground, to 6th Ave, to 9th ave and to Bow Valley College to start the Stampede?

Or would they just go west on 9th Ave to Bow Valley College, in which case ,the 6th ave crowd wouldn't be able to see them?

I really don't understand the whole wanna-be cowboy mentality.

As I understand it, they're riding the whole parade route in the opposite direction, so when they get to the end of their parade, they'll officially launch the real parade.

The first time I ever seen a Chinese guy, East-Indian guy, etc with Cowboy hat on was when I went to the Stampede for the first time 2 years ago.

It's better than our stupid exhibition. I don't even know what the heck they call it now.
