He was great in Tremors. I saw The Adventures of Remo Williams when I was a young kid. He was terrific in that, too.

yeah Fred Ward was a solid actor- I guess the character actor description fits, although he seemed to me a bit more than a character actor (not that there is anything wrong with a character actor!!)

anyways strong body of work to be sure

Remo Williams should have been a long running B-movie series, but they had dreams of blockbusters, and so it never continued. I love that although he was in a myriad of films and television, Fred Ward managed to be a B-movie hero seemingly by accident. Tremors aged so well.

Damn, I didn't realize Fred Ward was that old. But then again The Right Stuff is about 40 years old now, so the math follows...

I can still picture the end of that movie in my head and hear Fred Ward's voice, as 'Gus Grissom' fidgets in his seat at a table with a TV news broadcaster watching Gordo Cooper's Mercury-Atlas 9 ascend from the launch pad, nervously twisting a pencil between his hands until he finally erupts in excitement...

"GO HOTDOG, GOOOOO!!"

More on Naomi Judd from her daughter Ashley....

Ashley Judd says mom Naomi shot herself moments after asking her to stay with her

Quote:
Judd claimed she went to her mother's house every day when she was in Tennessee, including the day she died last month. She described the day as a ‘mixed day’ adding, “I visit with my mom and pop every day when I’m in Tennessee. … Mom said to me, ‘Will you stay with me?’ and I said ‘Of course, I will.'” According to Ashley, then after some time, someone arrived at the house, and Judd went upstairs to let Naomi know someone was there for her.

She explains, “I went upstairs to let her know the friend was there, and I discovered her. I have both grief and trauma from discovering her. My mother is entitled to her dignity and her privacy. And so there are some things that we would just like to retain as a family.” Everyone close to Naomi was aware of her issues with mental health and severe depression, which the singer openly discussed while alive. She once wrote on PEOPLE, that her sickness did not react to treatment and that she would spend days and weeks in bed.

Ashley said to the GMA host, “I knew she was fragile. Every time we hugged, and she drank me in, I was very present for those tactile experiences because I knew there would come a time when she could be gone. Whether it was by the disease or another cause.” According to Ashley, her mother was deeply adored by her peers however but the seriousness of her disease outweighed any amount of love from the outside.

I find Milgaard’s death particularity gutting because the poor guy lost half his adult life for a crime he didn’t do.

Yeah, it's really sad. His crime happened before I was born but growing up it was a case study in the 90's and beyond on how messed up things could be. Imagine how bad things are in the States with wrongful convictions. Terrible for those affected. I wonder what he ended up being like in his personal life after this.

Evangelos Papathanassiou, better known as Vangelis, died Tuesday. I very seriously ordered a few CDs of his over the weekend. I've been a fan since I first heard Chariots of Fire, and he put out some very interesting and cool music other than that.

Quote:
Vangelis—the composer who scored Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire, and many other films—has died, Reuters reports, citing the Athens News Agency. A cause of death was not revealed. According to The Associated Press, the musician died at a French hospital. Vangelis was 79 years old.

Born Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, Vangelis was largely a self-taught musician. He found success in Greek rock bands such as the Forminx and Aphrodite’s Child—the latter of which sold over 2 million copies before disbanding in 1972. One of his earliest film scores, written while he was still in Aphrodite’s Child, was for a French nature documentary called L’Apocalypse des animaux.

An innovator in electronic music, Vangelis is arguably best known for his work on Chariots of Fire and Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. It was noted by many upon the release of the Harrison Ford–starring film that Vangelis’ score was as important a component as Ford’s character Rick Deckard in bringing the futuristic noir film to life. Years on, it’s considered by many to be a hallmark in the chronology of electronic music.

It’s weird that you had just posted his music. Amazing score for Blade Runner.

I have a handful of his albums. That Conquests of Paradise theme is a beautiful piece of music.

It was weird: I'd actually been on a Vangelis binge over the weekend.

Blade Runner is one of my favourite movie scores ever. I had only been familiar with his soundtrack work when I discovered his other music, and was blown away by how abstract he could be. This record blew my teenage mind:

What????? He's looked rough for many years but man, 67 is still way too young.

My favorite movie of all time, Goodfellas.....guess I'll have to watch it again later tonight.

Everything he was in he was really good.

His performance as Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams was amazing.

His cameo on Modern Family is underrated.

Everyone will rightly talk about his film career, but Tommy Vercetti in Vice City is a classic.
