Default Cartoon/Anime thread.

Figured i'd make a thread about this. Post anything cartoon or anime related in here. News, favorite shows, clips, movies, recommendations, etc. Recently I've dived into the Avatar universe (The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra). Last Airbender is a brilliant. Korra is great but its recent season was pretty sloppy up until the last few episodes. In before "those are lame kids shows". Anyhow post away.

^That didn't take long at all.

Although at this point, posting the transformation gif from Kill la Kill would be equally NSFW.

Yeah re-watching The Last Airbender with my kid, a great cartoon series. My kid also liked K-On! for some reason too, though he only watched a few episodes but still listens to the music every so often (I downloaded the soundtrack for him).

Currently following:
Magi: The Kingdom of Magic
Attack on Titan
Kill la Kill (over the top, fanservice-y, but I'm liking it)
Naruto (meh, but committed so whatever)
Gonna start watching RWBY (looks like cool fight scenes)

Highly recommend:
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Not at all what you first think, give it a few episodes)
Fate/stay night, Fate/Zero
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
Sword Art Online
Gunslinger Girls

Have watched too many to list but that's what's on my Crunchyroll playlist recently anyway.

I'm waiting for the English version of Evangelion 3.33. Saw a timbit of the movie (in Japanese) and it looks pretty cool.

I was so excited to finally have a bluray with the original Akira dub(Cam Clarke as Kaneda) Made my week. Recently I've watched High School of the Dead(just insane and unnecessary boob jiggle but overall not a bad series)

I'm not an anime guy really at all, but not only is "Cowboy Bebop" the greatest anime I've ever seen, its one of the very best shows of any genre I've ever seen. The story-arc and depth of characterization is something Hollywood could only dream of.

Seconding Fate/Stay Night & Fate/Zero.

I don't really watch much anime, but my wife occasionally finds interesting shows and we always end up watching the weird mind#### stuff.

Other recommendations (and why yes, we do like Ufotable...)

Kara no Kyōkai - Garden Of Sinners - Like real ####ing mind #### damn good animation no oversexualization of characters and holy balls it's trippy

Noir - Neat series about a girl who is a trained killer

And goddamnit I can't remember the name of one..it was a real trip. Demon hunters in a city, used special bullets man it was real well animated and crazy but...urgh brain not working.

Hunter X Hunter - A boy's search for his estranged father and the adventures he has in a colourful fantasy world. A pretty typical set-up for an anime, what sets it apart for me is how psychologically complex it is (enemies are defeated with inventiveness and preparation, not brute force).

Death Note: A supernatural detective story that poses the question: how do you catch a mad god?. The entire series is just one massive, brilliant story.

Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke: Two films by Hayao Miyazaki, one of the greatest film animators ever. I find these two films are a head and shoulders above the rest of his work (that's partially because I saw them first) and are among my all-time favourite movies. All anime fans make their way to these movies eventually.

Tops on my list that haven't been mentioned:
Full Meta Panic - Alternate future anime where the cold war never ended, lots of humor and dark moments in this anime.

Full metal alchemist brotherhood - If you like steampunky fantasy esque anime, this one will be great. Takes place in a world where alchemy instead of science rein supreme. Great storylines/character plots and conspiracy.

Noein - Trippy psychological alternate reality anime.

Bakemonogatari - If you like paranormal animes, this one is probably right up your alley.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex - Cyberpunk dystopic future anime. Highly recommended

Endorsing Death Note, Kara no Kyoukai as others have mentioned.

For manga you guys have to read 20th Century Boys. It is one of the best manga/comics ever written! and the art is great!

Cowboy Bebop remains my favorite series of all time. If you enjoyed that series then I highly recommend Samurai Shamploo. It's the same director and even features many of the same voice actors.

Fate/Stay was pretty good, but Fate Zero took it to an entirely different level. Dark, gritty and awesome.

Code Geass remains my favorite anime series of all time though.

Yea, was going to say Code Geass as well.

Attack on Titan is quite good too though I am only a bunch of episodes in.
Death Note was great.

I enjoyed Fate Zero and Requiem for the Phantom as well but not as good as the first three.

Curious about this. I've heard it described as a train wreck in the second season, but the trains are filled with paint, so at least it's entertaining.

From my list of recommendations (bear in mind I am kind of crazy):
- Serial Experiments Lain. Certainly not for everyone (it kind of defines "mind****ing the audience), but a great show if you want to figure the plot out yourself.
-- Really, about half my favourites consist of weird experiments in show design much like this, so I've skipped the rest of that pile.
- Psycho-Pass. It doesn't really live up to any hype it built up, but it's worth it for the first half's references to Titus Andronicus, the Bible, and some kind of interesting themes placed in the show. Again, it kind of falls flat, but really fun watch, especially if you are into literary references and 1984.
- Slayers franchise. I'm a nostalgic. I admit that openly. Slayers had the following any massive franchise has today. I only caught 13 episodes as a kid and I think that stuck with me for my whole life.
