Lol if the organization is high on him, put him on the 2nd line, if not trade him. 8 mins of ice time is stupid.

'earn it... Yadda yadda yadda' perhaps there's a chicken and the egg thing here. He can't play better and be effective until he get ice time with top6 nhl caliber linemates vs having to prove he is a high impact player playing 4th line time to earn it.....

After listening to Friedman this morning it sure sounds like the organization is confused and conflicting internally on what to do with the kid.

Generally I agree with you I would prefer to see a bottom 6 as the following (assuming Czarnik continues developing chemistry on Tkachuk's line):

Bennett-Jankowski-Neal
Dube-Ryan-Frolik

Interesting.

The guy lost a year to an injury, but he's been tabbed as their next starter for a couple of years now. I haven't watched him enough to know if he's better than our guys for sure, but he has had the skills and pedigree of a good starter for a few years. That's one guy I'd consider picking up, although then you're putting Rittich on waivers and possibly losing him.

Tough call.

They had to do this since they acquired Pickard and also have Elliott.

I think having a bluechipper in Hart makes it easier as well. They also have Lyon and Neuvirth who both of which are on IR.

Where do the people that want Bennett slotted into the top 6 plan on playing him ? He hasnt had success as a center in the NHL. So he has to beat out Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Neal, Lindholm and to a lesser extent Czarnik for a top 6 spot... he isn't better then any of those players.

A Bennett Jankowski Neal line would see third line minutes and be put in more offensive zone situations than what was the fourth line last game.

Putting Neal on that line would transform it completely, and I didn't see any chemistry between Neal and Ryan that would make it a difficult decision to make.

Completely false.

LOL at "Cap Hell". The Leafs have the 4th highest amount of cap space out of 31 teams. And they have not put Horton on LTIR.(5.3 million cap hit) If they do that. they have by far the most cap room of any team.

I just scanned the 2nd line LW depth charts of the Eastern Conference, and it looks like Sam Bennett could potentially battle for that position on most teams.

Nobody prevented Bennett from being one of the two best options at RWv in camp. Are you suggesting he was? Because he clearly isn't one of the two best centres, and he can't be a top 6 LW on a team with Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

Go play the game. Be strong defensively, be strong on the PK, be strong at faceoffs, be physical, and the rest will follow.

Posters on CP always assume teams on the rise are in act hell. It makes them feel better.

Horton is listed on IR, but even in the event that the Maple Leafs do happen to have $17 m of room to play with in the summer instead of $12 m, that all somehow needs to be shared between Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Kapanen, Gardiner, and they will need to also add another two defensemen. That is the very definition of "cap hell."

You still have to sign RFAs Marner and Matthews in the off-season, and Gardiner will be a UFA. So yes, the cap is a concern moving forward.

The swagger that Neal carries himself with would have an incredible effect on Sam if he absorbed enough. Sam has confidence issues.

No one is saying they will have cap problems this year... You can't possibly believe anyone is arguing that.

If they sign Nylander, Marner and Matthews, They will have 50 + million tied up in they're top 6 forwards next year. After that they have Rielly and zaitsev for 10 and Anderson for 5. So they need a bottom 6, a bottom 4 and a backup making a million or so each.

It's a good problem and they are making the right play by freezing Nylander. Is their system deep enough to feed that kind of roster need? Guess we'll find out! My guess is they fall on their face because Leafs.

He definitely doesn't make most teams top 6 LW. He could possibly make it on some teams but those teams are all weak teams. The reality is at Bennetts current state he isn't a top 6 player. If he's on your top 6 you are probably not a playoff team. Saying that he's still young and can improve.

Would anyone be interested in a nick Ritchie for Bennett swap? We could definitely use a guy like him. There point production is almost identical and he probably would be a lot cheaper.

If only Ritchie were on a different team, I would say yes. He'd be the perfect 3rd/4th line LW for us. But, I do not want to see Sam Bennett in a Duck jersey. That's just barf worthy.

I agree. If Bennett somehow hit his draft potential in a ducks jersey I couldn't handle that.
