I like Jason Gregor, as far as Edmonton media goes...
Back when I lived there and listened to Team 1260, I'm pretty sure he was the guy who couldn't even bring himself to say the word "Calgary" or "Flames". He just called them "the red team". #### that dude lol.
When it came to the Flames, Stauffer back in his old 1260 stint was actually the one who would defend the Flames. I recall a call-in fan going off about Calgary just being a collection of grinders, Stauffer quickly interjected, bringing up Huselius, Langkow, Phaneuf, etc, saying there's a lot of offensive talent there. I always kinda liked him back then for that.
Granted that was before his official role with the Oilers, and 100% agreed he's a full blast pom-pom waver for them now. But he wouldn't jump on the Calgary hate the way most others there would.
Sure, a lot of goals against happen when McDavid and Draisaitl are on the ice, but they play a ton more 5v5 hockey than anyone else on the team. That’s to be expected when you play more than anybody else and such high-event hockey like they do
In other words, they aren't bad defensively, they just give up a lot of goals against because of the high-event style they play (bad defensively).
Also...

The Edmonton Oilers have two of the best players in the National Hockey League.
The Edmonton Oilers have tried to rely too heavily on two young superstars.
They are two of the best players in the league,
Edmonton needs to make more significant upgrades to their roster and better surround two of the best players in the league
Apparently you are not allowed to comment on the Oilers unless you first preface it with 'the two best players in the league'.

Nothing will ever change up there.
I finished reading Ken Dryden’s new book on Scotty Bowman. One of the many take home points made in it about hockey, and the modern game is that the game is no longer dominated or controlled by the center position.
The defense position has become more critical to team success. There are outliers like the Penguins a few years back, but they still had a serviceable puck moving defense, though not elite.
But this is all irrelevant to the out of touch Oilers. They’re mystified at their failure with some elite forward talent.
It isn’t the 80’s, 90’s, or even the 2000’s anymore. Plus drafting an elite defense is much harder using the Hockey New top prospects guide, especially when their development is trash.
Of course Staples has to include reffing as one of the reasons.
I pointed out to a couple Oiler fan friends who blamed the refs that the penalty minutes in the series were 40 for EDM and 39 for CHI (Oilers only had more because of that too many men call in the last minute of the series), and that EDM had 5 PPG to CHI's 4. Therefore, how was reffing the reason they lost?
Their response? "I said ONE of the reasons!"
Right, so the fact that the refs didn't give EDM a lopsided PP advantage was a reason they lost the series? I guess that does make sense.

I hope this is what they think, so they don't improve their roster
Jesus. It’s been a week since they lost, Staples. Time to move on and accept that your team isn’t very good. In fact. It’s very not good. So no more excuses and watch real hockey teams play.
next year is going to be their year!
the best line in the NHL (sorry Bruins, Aves, Knights and all you loser teams still left with your so called first line)
then as a '2nd line' the FASTEST LINE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL (consisting of an unsigned UFA and a 27 year old with 3 career goals on the wings)
two killer 4th liners in Chiasson and Neal looking for promotions. Sprinkle in Tyler Benson, Lavoie and Kass and its the 1950s Habs all over again
