There is a referral for a criminal investigation.

Unlikely that changes whether he resigns or not. Perhaps resigning sooner might have helped avoid it, but the only gameplan now is to double down defiantly...like the doofus he is.

RocketSpace is/was more of an accelerator for post-revenue start iOS than a straight Co-work concept, so it’s a bit more of a loss.
That said, CC just funded an initiative with Harvest ventures that might help soften the blow a bit

What does a forensic audit mean? Find the prostitute's dress that has Magliocca's semen stain?

Accountants and boxes of receipts. Less sexy. Unless you get the ones with helicopters.

From the report (page 21): Every year, members of Council are required to sign a statement acknowledging that they have read and support the Ethical Conduct Policy...
Quote:
Policy CC042 - Ethical Conduct Policy (inforce until May 28, 2018)
Fiduciary Duty
Members of Council are fiduciaries to the City and the public. They must act in good faith, with trust, confidence and candour and are expected to demonstrate high standards of personal and professional conduct to maintain public confidence in their behaviours and decisions.
In fulfilling their fiduciary duties, Members of Council shall:- Put the interest of the municipality ahead of their personal interests.
- Act in the best interests of the City and the public.
- Avoid conflict of interest with respect to the fiduciary duty to the City.
- Be loyal and act honestly and in good faith.
|
For his first two years on Council, Magliocca signed the declaration. In 2016, he signed it after crossing out "and support" from the declaration. In 2017, he didn't sign it at all.
----------
For the rest of his time on Council, he shouldn't be able to go anywhere in this city without being asked which one of those 4 principles he doesn't believe he should have to adhere to as a member of Council.

The things that immediately stuck out to me was how he charged extra days at the conference back to the city under the guise of some informal debrief that didn't exist, and then how he regularly upgraded to premium/business class flights and would only pay the difference "if he was asked to".
He seems to be relying on the fact that no one held him accountable for his actions, more than actually trying to do the right thing. He's pretty lucky they're so loose on checking expenses on Councillors. I would have been fired pretty quickly if I tried to pull these things in my job expense reports.

How on earth did he continue in his job...
This must be killing Farkas and Chu. The fiscal hawks might have to eat one of their own. Funny we haven't seen Farkas in front of a microphone bemoaning this latest waste of taxpayer money.

Magliocca is done. He’s in it for the wrong reasons (money, attention) and if he’s stupid enough to run again next year he’ll be trashed by the voters. This is one of the worst cases of municipal corruption I’ve ever seen and I watch all of these because of my work. I hope he resigns.

So city council referred the Magliocca investigation to the Calgary Police awhile back after the PWC audit. Apparently it's so bad the RCMP have been requested to take part and step in. Joe's probably going to wear a different type of suit sooner or later.
Quote:
Calgary police have asked the RCMP to step in and investigate a city councillors expenses after a probe into Joe Magliocca‘s finances over the last two years found an excess of $5,000 in ineligible expenditures.
In a statement to Global News on Monday, police said it had received a request from city council to further the investigation.
“The Calgary Police Service has received a request from the City for further investigation in relation to the expenditures of a City Councillor. We have reached out to the Alberta RCMP to request they lead an independent investigation in the interest of transparency and best practices.” police said.

This seems like money well spent.
Quote:
Calgary taxpayers are paying nearly $64,000 for an investigation ordered by city council that found Coun. Joe Magliocca improperly claimed $5,657 in expenses and raised questions about another $10,247.
The forensic audit done by PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) determined Magliocca improperly claimed $5,657 over the last two years and that there are outstanding questions about another $10,247 related to air travel upgrades.
Magliocca has voluntarily repaid the city a total of $6,220.

You don't investigate this and...well...even bigger problems arise.
Its funny to watch the responses of some to this.
